Heavy-duty cover is worn and detached from book only at the front hing (easily repaired); imprint on spine is no longer legible. Some foxing to edge and last few pages, else clean and tight. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Paris, France: La Societe Des Bibliophiles, 1873. First Thus. Half-Leather. Near Fine. Attractive red leather binding with ribbed spine and decorative gold stamping; marbelized boards, endpapers, and edges. 8vo, xxxviii, 344 pages. Marbelized glazed paper portion of the cover, front and back, is intact, but crackled. Bumped corners 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First French edition, with an essay on Lister's life. Lister accompagnied Lord Portland as paid physician on his embassy to Paris. His account of the city is now a valuable source of information re: streets, public places, sights, natural curiosities, belle lettres, and daily life in Paris.

Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1826. Leather-bound. Good. 8 volumes, 5.5 x 8.5. New edition, exhibiting a faithful collation of the original ms., with all the suppressed passages; also the unpublished notes of Bishop Warburton. Full brown leather bindings with gold stamping and tooled spines; labels (in black leather insets), worn/damaged/missing. Interior, some foxing, else clean; pages supple (will easily last another 300 years)

London: Longmans, Green & Company, 1883. Hardcover. Very Good. 10 Volumes, 12mo, 5 x 7.5 inches. Blue cloth covers, occasionally chipped; paper labels worn (nearly to the point of illegibility); interior moderately toned, but supple. Clean.

Bristol: J. W. Arrowsmith, 1881. Half leather. Good +. 3 Volumes in one, 4to, 8.75 x 11, x + 318; vii + 308; x + 356 pages. Beautifully illustrated. Tightly bound, except back strip has torn away from boards, which remain firmly attached to the book block. Beautifully marbleized end papers and paper edges; interior is clean, bright.

Paris: Chez Fantin, Librarie, 1812. Quarter leather. Very Good. 8vo, 5 x 8, xiv + 514 pages Attractive red leather binding with marbleized boards and scuffing, primarily along edges. Interior foxed. Found two pages with small pieces torn off, not affecting the text.

Paris: Plon-Nourrit et Cie., 1906. Hardcover. Very Good. 4to, 6.5 x 10, cxxviii + 128 pages. Trade paperback bound in green, library-quality buckram with paper label; Pages uncut, but yellowing.

Albany, New York: Joel Munsell's Sons, 1892. First edition. Hardcover. Fair. 8vo, 6 x 9.5, vi + 684 pages. A well-researched genealogical history of the Stiles family, primarily the family of Robert Stiles of Rowley (1639) through nine generations (534 pages) and the family of William Stiles of Dover (before 1715) through seven generations (28 pages). The volume includes essays by Henry R. Stiles on the origins of the family and name (six pages) and the Stiles family in England (61 pages). Clean interior on high quality paper, in need of rebinding. Boards are present and attached to the book block, but the back strip is completely torn off and the spine is broken completely in one place and mostly broken in a second. If not replaced, the existing binding could be easily repaired using existing materials.

Auburn, Maine: The Author, 1882. First edition. Hardcover. Good. 8vo, 6 x 9.5, xvi + 620 pages, with tweny-six tipped-in plates. Binding is tight, except front hinge is loose and a few of the tipped-in plates are detached (but present and in place). There is some water staining on the back cover and at the top of approx. six pages, else the interior is clean with nominal toning.
This genealogy, with many interleaved illustrations, offers a history of the Little family from George of Newbury, the immigrant ancestor, through nine generations of his descendants, in both male and female lines. Almost all the first three generations lived and died in Newbury, Massachusetts. Through the end of the eighteenth century (i.e., ca. 1800), we rarely find the family beyond the bounds of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Paris: Didier et Cie., 1865. Hardcover. Very Good. 4 volumes, 8vo, approx. 550 page each. Quarter leather, with damage to back strip of the second volume. Ex Libris label on front fixed end paper, "Le Proux." Usual shelf wear.

Paris: Mame et Delaunay-Vallee, 1829. half leather. Very Good. Two volumes in one, 8vo, 5 x 8, 422 and 392 pages. One-inch tear at the top of the front hinge; back strip additionally chipped, but still very presentable. Exterior of the boards are marbleized. Bookplate of "Lord Dinorbin" (apparently the owner of Welsh coal mines) on FEP. Interior bright with very little (if any) foxing.

New York: McGraw-Hill, 1975. Hardcover. Very Good +. 8vo, 6 x 9, xii + 480 pages. No dust jacket. Nominal edgewear (see image); else as issued with bright, clean interior

Half white pebbled cloth stamped in gilt with chromolithograp of maple leaf and hour glass on other half . Washington's very rare and fragile first book, a compilation of life affirming aphorisms on which BTW may be said to have modeled his life -- "To realize that the surest way to lift up ourselves is to lift up someone else." First edition, also published in London by Ernest Nister. Gem Series. Printed in Bavaria. This copy Presented to eleven year-old Anna in 1926 for perfect and punctual Sunday School attendance during the month of February (so says the inscription of the FFEP). Cover has some moderate soiling and is missing pieces of the back strip (about one inch at the top and half an inch at the bottom).
