Small mark to cover, else fine in original envelope. [New York, 1939]. Peep show with six color panels including the cover. Covers features a harlequin presenting the show to George Washington (or other colonial person) and others. The scenes terminate in the Trilon and Perisphere of the fair.

Illustrated with 144 magnificent hand-colored plates, many highlighted with gold and silver. Several of these plates are supplied from the first edition which was published serially 1812-34 (Colas 1164). This new edition is further embellished with 84 copper-plate engravings in the text, including 18 especially prepared for this work. Newly rebound by the Harcourt Bindery in half scarlet morocco with marbled sides and endpapers, t.e.g., the spines with gilt titles and panel ornaments. One of the most beautiful books on theatrical costume ever published. Colas 1165; Hiler & Hiler p. 350.

A little internal spotting, minor rubbing to binding with chipping loss to spine foot, but remarkably well preserved, slipcase similar. There are a series of small holes where clasps were attached. xxx, [ii], 598p. Printed in red and black and illustrated with 14 full-page engravings, head- and tail-pieces, and historiated initials. Bound in full contemporary calf with marbled paste-downs and ornate gauffering, a.e.g., the spine and covers with extensive gilt decoration including a tool of a bird with an olive branch and urns with flowers. Housed in full leather pull-off box lined with pattern paper and decorated with panel designs. Holy Week Offices.

Rebound in an elegant binding of full dark green morocco with gilt spine title and panel decorations with rules on the bands, the covers with elaborate gilt decoration and with an onlaid frame of red leather with Greek key rolls. Welsh 5003; Darton G654(2).

Excellent condition. 45 paper cards, usually colored lithographs with pointille embossments in gold and silver, decorated with additional cut-out parts from other colored embossments, multicolored materials, gold-foil or silver-foil, many with silk applications. With English texts. Sizes vary (duodecimo to quarto), all mounted on thick modern handmade paper. Housed in a green protective cloth drop-down-back case. An extraordinary and exquisite assemblage of these delicate items.

Folio box. 21 pages with eight full-page chromolithographs, the box with nine pull tabs on strings that make the corresponding animal sounds (8 in working order). The box is of red cloth with pictorial color image on upper cover, the edges are of gilt carved wood.

(There would not be room for all 12 volumes in the cabinet).
