Peters is a art historian with the Pratt Institute, author of several titles on American painters of the 19th century. Hardcover first edition, with dust jacket, published by Doubleday, 1963. In which Richard Scarry adapts 31 fables by the 17th Century French writer, La Fontaine. Each one illustrated with his distinctive animals. 8-1/2" X 11", 60 pages, sewn binding. The dust jacket is not price clipped, with the original price of $3.25 appearing on the interior top corner of the front flap. The dust jacket has a tear at the front bottom, through the rabbit wearing the red cap, and a large chip on the back bottom. The chip on the back is about 1" tall by 2-1/2" across. Several smaller chips and short tears as well. Though the dust jacket has been covered with a clear, removable protective cover. This is not a library discard copy.
