Title in red and black with engraved vignette.With finely engraved frontispiece representing the library interior and heads of celebrated Dutch scholars, full page plate of benefactors and plate of the Copernican Globe preserved in the library. Preface and index. Full contemporary mottled sheep (rubbed, corners lightly bumped, head & foot of spine chipped, lower back joint cracked). Red morocco title shield. The present catalogue was first published in 1716. When the supplement was completed in 1741 a newer and fuller titlepage was substituted in the copies then unsold, but still dated 1716. 1736. A Paris, chez A. Jombert, 1736. 4to. (page size 215 x 270 mm, most plates about 170 x 125 mm). 30 leaves of numbered engraved plates (22 plates of cupids - including engraved title, 8 plates of masks). Plus, bound as preliminaries, are the engraved titlepage and the second plate of Abraham Bosse's Differents Manières de Dessiner et Peindre. Later 3/4 buckram with marbled boards. Buckram a bit soiled. Plate 13 cut a bit short and plate 18 with a stain in the upper margin, not affecting the plate. Re-issue of this appealing series of engravings by Abraham Bosse after designs by the Italian artist and draughtsman Paolo Farinato (1524 - 1606). Farinati's chiaroscuro drawings were often used as 'modelli'. The first edition was published in 1644. Pages 28 & 29 contain an index (artists) and pages 30 & 32 contain a publicity and the constitution of the Art-Union of Philadelphia, fro the promotion of the arts of design in the United Stated (incorporated 1844). The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is a museum and art school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is the first and oldest art museum and art school in the United States.

Johan Coenraad Braakensiek (1858 - 1940) was a Dutch painter, illustrator and political cartoonist. The subject of this print is the strike of the typographers in Amsterdam from the end of April to the beginning of May 1900.

Titlepage within woodcut border, 12 woodcut plates by Gramme and 12 small woodcut vignettes for each month. In an emboidered binding of beige satin, with on the covers a broad baroque frame in high relief of gold thread with embroidered flowers in the centre. Flat spine embroidered with gold thread and pailettes in a wavy line. On the front cover a red flower and a yellow on the back cover. Chintz paste downs, Edges gilt. (gold a bit oxidIsed, embroidered flowers a bit stained; else in a perfect condition).This is the only copy of this almanach we could trace for this year (1741). All the years of this almanach are extremely rare according to KvK and Worldcat, where only 3 years are present. Paris, J. Sevin, n.d. (1893). Oblong (11 x 27 cm). 12 plates, printed on the recto only. Printed wrapprs with staples. (staples a bit rusted, wrappers a bit damaged and waterstained but interior fine). The printed cover serves as a titlepage. A very scarce late nineteenth century lettering book for the use of painters, architects etc. On the inside front cover the publisher explains that this booklet distinguished itself from other by the simplicity of the letters used as examples. Most of the plates attribute the letters used to Deberny & Cie. I have only found one library holding this (BNF) who date it 1893.

No place, no date (but Paris, 1748). Folio. Engraved allegorical frontispiece, engraved title, engraved dedication to the King, 78 engraved plates. Some (water)staining but still a good clean copy bound in nineteenth century 3/4 red morocco & red buckram boards. Edges stained red.Second, last and best edition of this collection of engravings of medals commemorating the real and imagined triumphs of Louis XV's reign.

(Paris, c. 1845). Large broadside (49 x 63 cm). (with some traces of folds).Exotic wood was use for architectural ornaments but was deemed to be far to expensive for general use. J. Morisot invented a cheaper alternative for this and was rewarded a bronze medal for his invention. The broadsheet shows the available models and their prices.

This is a property lease for one year. Manuscript is 38 lines long in black ink. Upper left corner engraved royal arms with surrounding scroll- and trelliswork extending along 1/3 of upper line 160 x 158 mm. Within scrollwork are four women (muses or fates perhaps?) and the name of the stationer who created the document (T. Brookbank, Stationer at Furnivals Inn). Below this, 3 stamps of VI pence each in blue embossed with a crowned garter motto with a Tudor rose in the center. (18,2 x 12,0 cm). 31 pp. Illustrated with woodcuts (including 2 full-page).Published for the London World Fair 1862 with map of the exibition halls on the inside front cover. The "Expositions Universelles" or World Fairs were intended to show the latest innovations and inventions. The earliest of these fairs were held in France but were national. The first one of 1798 was the start of eleven national fairs. Sewing machines were invented during the first Industrial Revolution to decrease the amount of manual sewing work performed in clothing companies. Callebaut shows different models and explains the technqiue of them. Both full page illustrations of the factory show us what factories looked like at the time. At the 1862 exhibition about 50 types of sewing machine were on show on over 20 stands. M. Callebaut from Paris showed 'several modifications of shuttle sewing machines of the Singer type.' Some light foxing but a nice clean copy in slightly later half cloth with brown paper boards (a bit rubbed and some staining on the boards). Original front and back covers pasted-on. The backcover contains a short list of the principal works by Ponce.Fifteen plates of engravings of ceilings etc. engraved by Nicholas Ponce (1746 - 1831).

A nice copy.Third full Bentley edition (an abridged third edition in 8vo. was produced in Cambridge, 1713), according to Brunet. The present edition, and its Amsterdam predecessor, are distinguished by having Bentley's editorial notes on the same page as the text. Dibdin and Brunet therefore preferred them to the Cambridge first.
