In a large Senate RFK envelope marked "Father Pereira.. 9 1/2x13 1/2 inches. Additionally signed and inscribed by his wife: "and admiration / Ethel Kennedy." The photograph, showing Rev. Pereira baptizing Douglas Harriman Kennedy, with Robert and Ethel visible as well as other members of their family. Averell Harriman was a family friend and Douglas was named after him. Father Albert Francis Pereira (1915-2004) was pastor of St. John's Parish in Virginia, which includes the Middleburg Community Center Building, where President John F. Kennedy occasionally worshipped.

Huebsch agreed to take on the book, if Harriet Weaver, who had serialized the novel in The Egoist in 1914, would arrange for 750 copies to be published in London.
