First Edition. Paris: Jean Budry & Cie, 1929. In two volumes: La Porte d'Entrée: JAFFA and JAFFA la Belle. Copy no. 321 of the initial 1 - 1000 numbered print run. Photos and full description available on request. Condition generally very good except for water staining to covers (particularly vol.2 extending to FEP, half-title and title pages) and very minor traces of mould close to bindings. Photos are unscathed in both volumes: 449 bandw historic photos in vol.1, plus 370 in vol. 2. : more than 800 photo heliogravures in excellent condition.

Tight in possibly contemporary binding with later? title label: "Medical Topography, 1830", previous owner's name and one line comment on FEP. 2 or 3 pages with some red pencil underlining, one printer's ink stain and two pages with small repaired tears. This is a very clean, very good copy of the rare first edition published in 1817 in Geneva. A few pages are lightly browned but there is no foxing and no annotations.There is a contemporary owner's signature - Calandrini, on the half title page. A genuine and VERY RARE single volume first edition of the second book in Forester's famed Hornblower series published in April 1938, well before the bundled volume: Ship of the Line/Flying Colours.The front title page of the dust jacket has been cut and glued onto the inside (page 2) of the hardcover. Binding is tight, slightly slanted, with cream-coloured inside binding pages. Very clean, slightly tanned pages with light foxing to textblock exteriors. Two light pencil-marked annotations on pages 75 and 239. Unattached giftcard inserted dated Dec. 1938.

This is a First edition thus of the "Quatrième Edition, revue & considérablement augmentée", printed in 1780. New articles are starred (*) to differentiate from those which had appeared in previous editions of this momumental work. This a complete 12-volume set, with each volume between 500 and 600 pages. Later bindings are still tight and text remarkably free from foxing, fading or other blemishes, BUT it is in places rather heavily underlined in pencil and/or ballpoint. This concerns maybe 1% of the text and does not impact its readability. See photos.

First Edition, First Printing with the words "First Published 1950" printed on the copyright page. The original dustjacket has very minor wear to the head and base of the spine and corners. This First Issue dust jacket has a light "coffee cup" stain towards the 9s.6d. net printed price on the uncut bottom front flap. The printer appears to have had some difficulty with the name Cantwell. Also of importance: note the DJ has a spelling error "deeps" for "depths" in the final sentence of the 2nd. para. The book, 254 pp., 8vo., is in excellent condition. The binding is tight, with no cocking or leaning and the boards are crisp with only minor wear. A great copy of this TRUE FIRST EDITION that precedes the American edition by 3 days. Ex libris Stanislas Joly bookplate inside front cover.

This Fourth Edition, dated 1837, which genuinely can be considered as a "First thus", includes a preface to the Third Edition in which the author states that she has added: "some verses illustrative of each subject".In addition to the 1833 First Edition is added "The Author's Apology".
