Original steel engraved map with original outline hand colouring. 6 vignettes include Pico Azores, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Funchai [Funchal], Maderia [Madeira] and Nilla Franca Azores. Decorative border. Single page unfolded map in excellent, clean condition. Associated text page of the Montgomery Martin Atlas included. A good Tallis Map.

Russell, J. : Asia from the Best Authorities. Nd but ca.1800. From "A New Geographical, Historical and Commercial Grammar and Present State of Several Kingdoms of the World". Copper engraving. Size approx 200 x 230mm. Two neat folds. Some age colouring to edges, otherwise clean and bright. Includes Arabia, India, Borneo, Japan, China and eastern Russia.

Original steel engraved map with original outline hand colouring. 5 vignettes include St Peters Port, Castle Cornet, Druidian Alter near Lancresse, Mount Orgueil Castle and Jersey. Decorative border encloses 2 maps of the large islands of Jersey and Guernsey with an inset of the other islands. Single page unfolded map in excellent, clean condition. Associated text page of the Montgomery Martin Atlas included. A good Tallis Map.

From "A New Geographical, Historical and Commercial Grammar and Present State of Several Kingdoms of the World." Copper engraving. Size approx 200 x 230mm. Two neat folds. Some age colouring to edges, otherwise very clean and bright.

Speed, John : Cheshire. The Countye Palatine of Chester with that most Ancient Citie described. Basset & Chiswell, [London, 1610-1676]. Size approx 510mm x 380mm ( 20 x 15 inches). Early hand coloured double page copper engraved map. From Speed's "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain" with English text on verso and a description of the county and a gazetteer. Inset town plan of Chester. Seven coast of arms of "The Armes of the Earles of Chester since the Norman Conquest". Four decorative cartouches. Speed has used William Smith's revisions of Saxton and the Braun & Hogenberg plan of Chester. Good margins. Very small hole (approx 2mm or 1/10in) in the decorative border, otherwise fine condition. A strong dark impression of this famous decorative county map of Cheshire.

Philips Special map of the Nile illustrating the Advance on Khartum [Khartoum] with an enlargement of the environs of Omdurman [Omdur]. George Philips and Son, London and Liverpool Ca 1900. 580mm x 900mm folded map. Front title wrapper has come loose, not affecting map area. Three maps are displayed within the sheet. Map1. Map of the Nile Valley 520mm x 300mm showing the approaches of Khartum. Scale 1inch to 100 Geographical miles. Coloured indicating Possessions and Protectorates of European Powers. Map 2. Special map of the Nile from Dongola to Khartum. Scale 16 miles to the inch. Coloured. In set in this map is Map3. Environs of Omdurman, Scale 5 statute miles to the inch. Some small breaks at some folds, not affecting imagery or use of map. Title label is damaged, the map is clean and bright, probably unused. A very interesting record.

Collins, Greenville : Chart of Milford Haven, from Great Britain's Coasting Pilot, ca.1760. Copper engraved chart. Map size approx 560mm x 440mm. Wide margins, hand coloured, good impression on heavy paper, showing the Welsh coast at Milford Haven. Compass rose, rhumb lines, scale. Cartouche with cherub, dedicated to Sir Hugh Owen. Light water stain to top margin just touching printed area, otherwise a very good, bright and attractive chart.

Colomb, Jacob Aertsz. De Custe van Engelant tußchen Poortlant en Lezard. Additional title: Les Costes d'Angleter re de Fierleij jusques á Lezard. Ca 1640. Listed in the The New Fierie Sea-Colomne from 1633-1651. Copper engraved, early hand coloured chart. Chart size approx 525mm x 375mm. Orientation NNE top centre cartouche contains scale. Decorative title cartouche to upper right and additional title cartouche below scales. Chart covers land areas from Portland to the Lizard. Among the places indicated on the coast line are Bridport, Torbay, Dartmouth, Plymouth, Fowey and Truro. Decorative compass rose, rhumb lines and sea vessel on sea area, which also includes the Ideston [Eddystone] Rock and the Kasquettes [Casquets] . Side margins tight with small breaks just touching edge of engraved area. One tear in sea area, repaired. Very early handwritten note to top margin, commenting on the soundings of this area and that of Falmouth, suggesting this chart had been used as a working reference at… Read More

Cary, John: A Map of Cheshire. John Stockdale 26th March 1805. Engraved by J Cary 43x 53cm. Uncoloured. Two vertical folds. Some age toning on map, otherwise good strong print with great detail and accuracy. Excellent condition.

Bulwer Lytton, E. Arasmanes or The Seeker. London, Maclaren an Co. nd Ca 1905. 12mo. Marbled paper design slipcase. Paper covers with title in black to front and spine, red letter device to front and printers black devise to verso. With armorial bookplate of Geoffrey Drew Wood on front pastedown. Illustrated frontis. pp66. Slip cases is age soiled, covers age toned where not protected by slipcase. All pages in fine condition, the frontis print, strong and bright with good plate indent. A scarce book.

Pitt, Moses and Swart, Stephaman. Duynckercke, [Dunkirk]. Ca 1683. Hand coloured, copper engraved sea-chart. Chart size 440 x 505 mm, sheet size 580mm x 690mm. Two charts on one sheet showing the Dunkirk approaches. The larger chart from that of Blaeu's Pourtraict de la fameuse ville et havre de Duynckercke. With Rhumb lines, compass rose and scales. Townships and sandbanks indicated. Decorated with fleets of galleons off shore. With an inset panorama of Duynckercke [Dunkirk] after Jan Van Loon and a smaller coastal profile of Cales. The smaller chart showing the coast of Flanders, from Walchren [ Walcheren ] to Boloigne. Early hand coloured charts with later red ruled border on wide blank margins. Small tear without loss to lower blank margin, otherwise in bright and clean condition. Rare and attractive Sea Charts.

Detailed engraving of church and graveyard with 2 people in the foreground. As recorded in the Views Of Thanet Drawn and Etched by B T Pouncy. Some light foxing, hardly visible on printed area. One light stain on lower margin, touching titles but not affecting printed area. A scarce, large print from this notable craftsman.

Contemporary Tree Calf, recent re-back and new headbands. PP207,title page watermarked 1801, seven folding plates of engineering and mathematical diagrams. Neat, early ownership mark on front pastedown of George Wayne M.E. Skillful repairs to three plates, with very small loss on one plate mainly to blank and fold line area. Pages lightly browned in clean and bright order throughout. A rare early work on mine surveying.

Neat gift inscription on title page to Arnold [Rattenbury] from his wife Sim. Arnold Rattenbury was a close friend to Sylvia Townsend Warner. One small tear at lower spine, without loss to dustwrapper. Binding and all pages in excellent condition.
