1910 Stories of Buffalo Bill Cody Wild West Americana Texas INDIANS French 9v

"Every Indian outbreak that I have ever known has resulted from broken promises and broken treaties by the government."
– Buffalo Bill Cody

In a remarkable early life as an Indian scout, trapper, miner and Pony Express rider, William F. Cody developed a reputation for courage. Yet it was buffalo hunting that earned his nickname. Cody garner his fame and fortune when he turned his life into a theatrical spectacular which toured the United States and Europe. Cody is credited for almost single-handedly inventing the Wild West.

In the early 20th-century, there was a demand for stories of Buffalo Bill's life and adventures – not only in America! These short stories tell the stories of the American west published in Paris by Eicher.

1884 1ed Confederate War Papers General Gustv Smith Battle Seven Pines Civil War

Gustavus Woodward Smith was a Confederate general during the American Civil War, best remembered for his role in the Battle of Seven Pines. When General Joseph Johnson was injured, Smith took over the commanding role until his health deteriorated and Robert E. Lee ultimately took over.
Following the war, Smith published a memoir of his experience in the war. 'Confederate War Papers' covers topics including Jefferson Davis's presidential election, battle tactics and maneuvers, Confederate defenses and forts, and much emphasis on the Battle of Seven Pines. However, according to Nevins,
"Smith was a failure as a general; this work is largely his rationalization for shortcomings at Seven Pines."

In his personal memoirs, he wrote of great battles throughout American, his account of the election of Abraham Lincoln as President, surveys of the trans-continental railroad, and personal studies of Native Americans, along with that of George Catlin. His memoirs, or 'Personal Recollections', focuses primarily on his experiences with Indians, rather than pertaining to his career as a Civil War general.
