Some foxing first few pages, but other pages are very clean. Top edge gilt, lightly faded. 338 pages, 31 plates. J. H. P. Murray was Lieutenant-Governor and Chief Judicial Officer in New Guinea. The book provides chapters on geography, history, administration, native populations and their social organizations and customs, exploration and development during this early period of colonial control.

Her career took a new direction in the late 1940's when she went to Haiti with the intent of making an ethnographic film.
