Description:
1650 1ed Execution Charles I Defensio Regia Saumaise French Royalist Civil War

Claude Saumaise was a 17th-century French scholar known for his editions and commentary of classical works and Greek anthologies. However, he also published a defense of Charles I of England following his execution. Curiously, Saumaise's 'Defensio Regia' takes on a thoroughly royalist agenda, even from a Frenchman, and Charles II even helped publish the book. This book even inspired John Milton who published his own piece of political propaganda that covered the events of Charles I and II.

Description:
1883 1st ed SLAVERY Kansas Missouri Border WAR Squatter Sovereign by Humphrey

'The Squatter Sovereign' is a 19th-century historical novel by Mary Humphrey. This work tells the story of the anti-slavery movements in Kansas in the mid-1850s, more commonly known as the Border War between Missouri and Kansas. Humphrey, curiously, seems to praise both free-states and pro-slavery activists throughout this book.

Description:
First Edition in PRISTINE condition! This rare easy-to-read 240 page paperback examines two Old Testament books, Joshua & Judges. The back cover states: "The books of Joshua and Judges resemble different stretches of the same river. The Joshua stretch flows clear and strong. The people of Israel face challenges and experience solutions and victories. But the Judges stretch turns murky as the people create trouble by allowing the evil of the surrounding culture to pollute them. God is at work, though, in both stretches of river. In the Hebrew Scriptures, Joshua and Judges join the books of Samuel and Kings as 'former prophets'. As prophetic books, they aim to challenge, indict and inspire God's people. The authors drew from events of the past to challenge a later generation of God's people about the way to live before God, and they call us today to clear up our picture of God and then to adjust our lives accordingly."

1822 1st eds SCOTTISH Sir Walter Scott Saint Ronan's Well Peveril of Peak 7v SET

Sir Walter Scott was a Scottish historical novelist, playwright and poet. Many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and of Scottish literature. These volumes are the true first Scottish edition of Scott's famous books 'St. Ronan's Well' and 'Peveril of the Peak.'
Scott's novel, Peveril of the Peak tracks the events of the Popish Plot of 1678, in which Jesuits were accused of planning the assassination of King Charles II in order to make his Roman Catholic brother, the Duke of York, King. Set during the time of the pretended Popish Plot (1678).
"The author draws elaborate portraits of Charles II and Buckingham, and gives glimpses of such historical characters as Titus Oates, Colonel Blood (the impudent revolutionary who tried to steal the crown jewels from the Tower), and Sir Geoffrey Hudson (Henritta Maria's dwarf)." 1681 English Civil WAR 1ed Dugdale Troubles in England French Wars of Religion

William Dugdale was 17th-century English historian known for his works of antiquity of English aristocracy and monastics. While not his most notable work, 'Troubles in England'
is a treatise written to describe the wars that influenced Europe and England during the 17th-century. Dugdale correlates three wars – English Civil War, Barons' War, and the French Wars of Religion – and how they related to each other. Interestingly, the DNB notes that this work was "written throughout in a strain of animosity to all who took the anti-royalist side." However, this work isnotable for its accuracy.
