Indonesian teak covers are held together by a central red cord and batiked wooden beads. Digitally printed on an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 with archival inks and Epson watercolor paper in an edition of 100. Each pouch is unique as each has its own batik design and cloth. Each book is signed and numbered. A true story. One lesbian trying to get pregnant; one gay man dying of AIDS. Life; death. The struggle to make life; the struggle to hold on to life. The ironies compound and cancel each other, until what is left are the dignity of struggle and sanctity of possibility. Very good. 8vo. iv,(1),31,(2)pp. Thirty-two pages are chromolithographed by Humphreys, in addition there is a leaf of the illuminator' s remarks and one comprising an index of the miracles. Bound in the original black papier-mache covers designed to look like carved ebony. The binding was based on one carved in ivory in the 12th Century and has medallions of the principal miracles intertwined with ornate decorations and the title. The front and rear covers are identical. The book is exuberantly illustrated using chromolithography on 32 pages alternating between hot bright colors and cool pages subtly tinted with various shades, the whole combining to make both a magnificent tribute to Medieval illustration and to the then new and novel technique of chromolithography. Goodale continues her documentation of imperiled fauna with Maine's Alpine Marsh Violet. The viola palustris in Maine is "critically imperiled because of extreme rarity or vulnerability to extirpation."

Mottoes printed on grey inserts, centered and decorated. Moderate, even, wear to all edges of cover. A beautiful example of the Arts and Crafts Movement, and a return to traditional book making. Sewn binding. Signed, dated, and numbered by the artist. Lise Melhorn-Boe: "The text of 'Mending' is a poem by the American poet Hazel Hall. Hall was born in 1886, and lived for most of her life in Portland, Oregon. Following a bout of Scarlet Fever, at the age of 12, she was confined to a wheelchair. Hall took in sewing to help with the family finances, and 'Mending' is one of thirty-three poems she wrote about needlework.  "The cover of each copy of the book is a pair of pants, or chorts, or, in one case, a short denim skirt. The first page is a collared shirt, the second a piece of household textile. Next follows a nightgown or pair of pyjama pants, and the last page is a T-shirt. Most of the garments came from friends and family.

125 Pages. Inscribed and signed by both authors on the first page.This is a very interesting book on lettering, artwork, and the genesis of how letters are formed. The exterior of the book has lightly worn areas at the top and bottom of the spine, and light wearing on all four corners. The lettering on the spine is darkened and some of it has worn off. The interior book, however, other than the inscription and signatures has no further visible extraneous markings throughout, has all printing and illustrations in very well-preserved and enjoyable condition, has good and tight bindings, and only has slight browning of the inside front and rear cover pages.This book will be carefully wrapped up, padded, and boxed and then sent right away to you from here in New Jersey and comes to you with our genuine gratitude for your interest and for your order.
