- Hardcover
MacMillan and Co. London. 1868. FIFTH EDITION (Fourth published), (Eleventh thousand).
Octavo. (7.4 x 5.1 inches). Forty two beautiful line illustrations by John Tenniel. Original tissue guard still present on frontispiece. Three line presentation inscription on the half title and a few minor spots and marks otherwise remarkably clean and bright throughout. A couple of gatherings are slightly proud but overall this is a better than very good copy in original publishers red cloth with gilt ruling, decoration and lettering to spine. Boards with triple gilt ruled borders. Circular centre pieces showing illustrations of Alice carrying the Pig and the Cheshire Cat, both within and triple circular border and both in gilt. Original black endpapers with thin cracks but holding firm. All edges gilt.
Slight lean to the spine. Boards just a little bumped and edges a little rubbed, a few small ink marks to the rear panel and half circle cup mark to the front but generally a superior copy with the gilt, particularly on the spine, still bright and vibrant. ---- This is the fifth edition, the fourth published, issued in February 1868 and was the last printing before the electrotype editions which started being published in October the same year. -- Williams, Madan, Green; No.46c.

Macmillan and Co. London and New York. 1889. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION. 8vo. (7.7 x 5.3 inches). Portrait frontis, folding colour map and thirty seven illustrations and diagrams throughout. Publishers dark green cloth with gilt ruled lines and letering to the spine. Boards with single blind ruled borders. Curiously, the title page has London as the lead address but has the US printer, John Wilson and Son, University Press (of Cambridge, Massachusetts), on the verso of the title page, whereas the British edition was printed by R. & R. Clark of Edinburgh. This American edition is very similar to the English edition except the 2pp of adverts at the end of the text are for Macmillan New York's current titles, and the binding spine has fewer gilt ruled lines to the US version. A little minor rubbing to the extremities of the binding but this is a lovely clean and tight copy inside and out. Rare in such fine condition.

Printed Privately. Confidential.,1909. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 56pp. One of only 250 copies privately printed by R. & R. Clark of Edinburgh. Inscribed by Shaw on the half title page to Frances Noyes Hart; "The Committee refused to accept this statement; and there was a very pretty row about it which is fully described in the preface to the Shewing up of Blanco Posnet. G. Bernard Shaw. London. 3rd Oct. 1931. To Frances Noyes Hart". A fine copy in original blue stiff card wrappers printed in black to upper cover. Housed in a blue vellum chemise which is lettered in gilt, reproducing the exact lettering, even using the same typeface, as the printed front cover. This is then housed in a quarter green morocco slip case with raised bands and gilt rules and lettering to the spine. The slip case is rubbed and worn but has done its job of keeping the booklet and chemise in fine condition. Frances Noyes Hart was an American short story writer. She became famous after winning the Pulizer prize for her 1927 Crime…

Frederick Warne & Co. London. 1908. FIRST EDITION. 4to. (10.8 x 8.5 inches). Fully illustrated with 24 wonderful full colour plates (XYZ appear together on one page) within a border and above a humourous verse, plus 2 double page decorative line drawings, printed in different shades of brown on parchment paper, for the endpapers. Colour pages are printed on one side only. A bright and clean copy throughout. Publishers original grey/dark green paper covered, bevelled edged, boards with lettering and illustration to the front board by Dulac, printed in Gold, white, orange and light green. Rear board with circular design printed in white, gold and green. Plain yellow cloth spine. Some minor marking to the spine but overall a lovely clean, tight, near fine copy.
