This copy is also Signed by the author, dated June 1999, underneath his portrait photo on the frontispiece. Illustrated throughout with engravings, photos and facsimiles of letters and the famous Hardy Catalogues. Small tear, without any loss, to the top margin of one page otherwise a fine copy in the original full black morocco binding with gilt ruling, lettering and decoration to the spine. The front board with three gilt fish to the centre. Marbled endpapers. Top edges gilt. Silk bookmark. Housed in a black cloth covered slip-case. Uncommon signed.

John Major, London.,1824. SECOND MAJOR EDITION. Illustrated with 14 copper engraved plates and several woodcuts throughout the text. Two small patches of browning affecting the top outer corner of ten leaves, otherwise a very good copy in fine nineteenth century binding by Thomson of Exeter, with binders ticket on front paste down. Full tan calf, raised bands, compartments fully gilt. Red title label, gilt. Boards with double blind ruled and one gilt ruled borders. Marbled endpapers. School prize plate on front paste down shows that this copy was given as a prize in January 1842. Previous owners name(dated 1881) and ink name stamp on blank endpapers. Front hinge neatly repaired. Some minor rubbing to edges but generally a very good copy in an attractive nineteenth century binding.:

This edition is dedicated to the Willewemoc Club. This is the 3rd edition of the treatise, preceded only by the Wynken de Worde edition of 1496; and the 1827 Pickering edition. This edition contains the Pickering preface, a new preface by Van Siclen and a glossary.
