First Edition, First Issue, First State Of Book, In First Issue Dust Jacket. Titles At Front Of Book List Through The Tin Woodman Of Oz (1918). 12 Full Color Inserts Tipped In. Publisher's Name "Reilly" On Spine Is 7/8" Long, Covers Medium Green, As Shown For First American Edition In Bienvenue, And Book Bulks 1 1/2" Thick. [Presumably The First Issue; Not Noted In Bienvenue Is That Copies Which Are Noticeably Thinner Than This Example, About 1 3/8" Thick, In A Cloth Of Similar But Lighter Gray- Green Color, And Thus Similar To The Binding Of The First Canadian Edition, Meet All The Other Points For The Bienvenue "First State", Even Though There Are Other Very Slight Differences Between The Covers Of This Book And Books With The Lighter Green Covers, Such As In The Inking And Type On The Spine, The Medium Green Books Like This One Appearing To Be Printed More Strongly And Finely, And The Colors On The Cover Of These Medium Green Books Printed Slightly Off Register With Small White Shadow Appearing Towards Upper Left Of Lettering. ] This Book With A Touch Of Wear To Corners Of Top And Bottom Edges, No Tears Or Fraying Or Fading Or Names, An Attractive Unfaded Example With Bright Green Cloth And Black Lettering On Spine. Front Cover Paste-On Illustration Bright And Complete, And Would Be Near Fine,, But Has Neat Coloring To A Few Illustrations: 1. Front Pastedown Has Gold Watercolor On The Headdress And Sceptre; 2. On The B/W Frontispiece In Front Of The Colored Frontispiece, The Dress And Scarf Are Watercolored Green And The Hat Blue; 3. On P. 73, Sheets And Clothes Are Watercolored Green, Black Lines Of Dorothy's Hat Erased From Page; 4. On The Two-Page B/W Illustration On Pp134-135 There Is Extensive Appropriate Watercoloring; 5. There Is A Long Tear Near The Gutter Edge Of Pp 242-244, Not Affecting The Illustration On 243. Dust Jacket Is First Issue, With Illustration On Front And Back Reproducing The Paste-On Cover Illustration, Spine Panel Reproduces Spine Of Book Without A Price, Front Flap Summarizes The Story, Back Flap Is Blank.
