Dobbin Books: "Two matchbox-like containers are held together by the concertina-form made of human hair looking like an exquisite brush. The boxes each contain a book, bound on leather cords with waxed linen thread. The texts within each book, sewn with human hair and copper wires, resonate in their similarities but, like the expansion and compression of the ‘brush,’ vary in their meaning and intention. North Bay, Canada:: Transformer Press,, 2002.. Edition of 10. 10 x 7.5" with eight spreads. Accordion book with handmade paper pages and hard covers. The text is rubber-stamped and the images colour-copied. There are five very simple pop-ups. Tall tales and (possibly) true stories told to Lise Melhorn-Boe as a child are combined to create a fairy-tale version of her father's immigration to Canada, presented as a quest for food. The pages get more colourful and dimensional as the story progresses.  Lise Melhorn Boe: "My father grew up during World War I in Germany, the third youngest of nine. So he remembered not having enough to eat. He was a good storyteller, so I've just put together a number of his tales. The photos are all really of him and his family. Green silk cloth-covered boards with illustrated handmade paper on front board. In matching green cloth-covered slipcase. Goodale uses the accordion book structure for bringing attention to these seven ferns on Maine's Threatened & Endangered list. She lists the individual species' names under the name of the genus Woodsia. Her vigorous painting strokes and bold design seem to bring the page alive with ferns.

Portland, Maine:: Rebecca Goodale,, 2009.. Edition of 5. 12 x 15.5"; 43 unnumbered pages, many of which fold out from the main text block. Block printed with rubber stamped letters. Cloth bound. Rebecca Goodale: "This book unfolds to reveal a vernal pool with the four indicator species and a poem about mating season." An indicator species is often the most sensitive species in the region and acts as a warning to monitoring biologists. The indicator species of the vernal Maine pool are fairy shrimp, blue salamanders and yellow spotted salamanders, and wood frogs.

Fred Hagstrom: "'Pipeline' documents the ongoing protests against the construction of the Enbridge Line 3 oil pipeline that will take tar sands oil from Canada to Superior Wisconsin. It is actually a new line along a new route, leaving the old pipeline in the ground. The line crosses land that is held by tribes without honoring treaty rights. It is seen as a threat to the sources of water in northern Minnesota, including the Mississippi and numerous wetlands and streams in the Lake Superior watershed. Tribes are also concerned about the effects of possible spills on wild rice beds. The oil from this line will greatly add to emissions."
