PLAN, SECTION and ELEVATION of the POO-TA-LA of TEMPLE of the LAMA at ZHE-HOL in TARTARYThis monumental temple which looks more like a fortified tower was drawn by HW Parish in 1793.This antique original copper plate engraving is from Sir George Leonard Staunton's atlas folio of prints to accompany "An Authentic Account of an Embassy from the King of Great Britain to the Emperor of China . Taken chiefly from the papers of His Excellency the Earl of Macartney". The work was published in London by G.Nicol in 1797. George Macartney, 1st Earl Macartney (1737-1806) was dispatched to Beijing in 1792 travelling via Madeira, Tenerife, Rio de Janeiro, the Cape of Good Hope and Indonesia. He was accompanied by George Staunton, and a retinue of suitably impressive size, including Stauntonâ s 11-year-old son who was nominally the ambassadorâ s page. R. Miller. Old Fish Street, St. Pauls. London. - No date 1810. FIRST EDITION. 18mo. (5.5 x 3.7 inches). Complete with 56 fine hand coloured maps. Decorative lettered title page, index, 12pp Publisher's catalogue at the rear. Neat previous owner's name, dated 1833, on the title page, otherwise a clean copy throughout. Contemporary half dark green sheep with marbled paper on the boards. Plain spine ruled in gilt. The binding is rubbed, chipped and worn but has done it's job of protecting the book inside. Internally a lovely copy. The binding is poor but this is an unsophisticated copy of a scarce miniature atlas, with original hand colouring throughout. Housed in a felt lined clam shell box, covered in dark green cloth and with a red morocco label, gilt.---- Although both the British Library, and Chubb's Bibliography of Printed maps in the atlases of Great Britain and Ireland date this atlas to 1810, this example was bound up later, with some of the titles advertised in the publisher's catalogue dating… Read More

They both are listed as VOLUME I but each covers two different periods in English history (period one and period two). Hardcovers quarter bound in dark blue cloth with light blue cloth covered boards. Bindings are spotted, have scuffing, light foxing. The period one book has a gouge to the fore-edge of the rear board. The period two book has a dark stain mark at the top of the front board. All edges of text blocks are gilt. The gilt is dulled, Marbled endpapers. Text has light toning. Some pages are smudged. Photographs throughout.

This hardcover book the first of a series of in-depth studies which covers the uniforms, equipment, insignia, weapons, vehicles, and personal items of the British and Commonwealth soldier of WWII. It covers the British Airborne soldier of the 1st and 6th divisions and the 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade. The book contains over 540 color recreation and detail photos and over 65 unpublished war era B&W photographs.
Each branch of the Airborne is covered: paratroops, glider troops, divisional and administrative departments, and glider pilots as well as those liaison and attached troops. Published by Schiffer Publishing in 1999, is filled with detailed information and photographs and makes a nice addition to any Military History library.
