London: Henry G. Bohn, 1851. Leather Bound. Good. Half leather over cloth boards in good condition. Marbled endpapers. TEG. With 40 hand-colored engravings. Raised bands on the spine. A few words underlined pp. 115-116. Some foxing. Eight pages have a dark mark in the center of the page, but the text is still legible. A damp stain on the lower corner of many pages. With additions and Supplementary notes by William Jardine. Edited with further illustrations, a biographical sketch of the author and a complete index by Edward Jesse.

American Wildlife Institute, 1944. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Very good hardcover of the First Edition. Unclipped dust jacket with wear to the edges. Signed by author on half title page. Previous owner's note and author's reply laid in along with Hochbaum's obituary. Color frontis. Illustrated by the author. 1 color plate, 18 half-tones, 10 tables, a map and numerous pen and ink drawings.

Albany: D. Appleton & Co and Wiley & Putnam, 1842. Hardcover. Very Good. The first volume of the Natural History of New York with 29 of the 33 engraved plates of mammals hand colored. Rebound with sturdy cloth spine and marbled boards. The introduction (178 pages) by William H. Seward covers a great variety of subjects including internal improvements (two plates of the Croton Aqueduct), agriculture, and a description of published works on New York. A note on the penitentiary system of the state by John L. O'Sullivan is included. DeKay's section on Mammalia with the colored engravings is rare.

London: Collins. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. The complete set of the New Naturalist Monographs in dust jackets, all first editions. NMN 21, The Trout is ex-library (canceled). Some of the dust jackets have minor chipping and some small bits of insect chewing. A complete list of the monographs is available. Overall a near fine set. In 1945, Collins, of St. James Place, London published Butterflies, the first title in the New Naturalist Library, a series of books on British Natural History in iconic dust jackets, with the aim of interesting the general reader in the wildlife of Britain by recapturing the enquiring spirit of the old naturalists. Within a few years, Collins perceived a need to narrow the focus by producing 'New Naturalist Special Volumes' with each title devoted to a single species and thus was born the New Naturalist Monographs. Twenty-two monographs were published, beginning with The Badger in 1948 and ending with The Mole in 1971.

Includes an illustrated essay by Brian Reade, 15 pp. Edward Lear (1812-1888) was a brilliant artist, but only his early creative years were devoted to painting birds. His monograph of the parrots reflects his artistic talent and remains one of the most prized illustrated works of the 19th century.

The plates are printed on museum quality paper using high grade inks and are signed and numbered by the artists of which 30 are represented. This is Number 307 of 1,250. Leather bound and housed in a chocolate Solander case. Artists include J. Fenwick Lansdowne (2), Peter Scott. John Ruthven (2), Albert Earl Gilbert, and others. Each plate faces a page with a photograph of the artist and a biographical sketch. Published by Ducks Unlimited Canada to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of North America's premier waterfowl conservation organization. Due to the weight of the text block, the hinges have experienced some stress.
