Santa Barbara, CA: Bradford Morrow, 1979. Limited/Numbered . Soft cover. VG+. Published by Bradford Morrow on the 20th anniversary of the original appearance of The Naked Lunch, consists of 324 numbered copies in wrappers... cast in Monotype Baskerville and designed and printed letterpress by Patrick Reagh in August 1979; this copy is out of series and numbered 399. Title on cover states: A variant passage from The Naked Lunch, with a new introduction by the author. 8vo, french folded wraps, 42 pages, frontispiece drawing by K. Anders after Egon Schiele's "Kummernis." Condition is VERY GOOD+ : very slight edgewear and very slight tanning to spine. A very nice copy.

George Shanks. 1st edition [stated, logo of JR on copyright page], 8vo, green cloth with yellow illustrations and lettering, yellow top edge, illustrated endpapers, 240 pages, color frontispiece, ten b/w illustrations. VERY GOOD / no jacket: slight cover wear, light rubbing to spine extremities, spine is slightly toned, faint foxing to first and last few pages, owner name on front endpaper, otherwise internally very clean and tight. A rare children's book, unfortunately without the even more rarely seen dust jacket...this is a nice copy.

NY: Lyle Stuart. Soft cover. VG+. Privately printed, no publication date, originally presented in 1949. 8vo, stapled wraps, 14 pages, two-color illustrations. VERY GOOD+ condition. A science-fiction story by one of the scientists who worked on the A-Bomb project, it tells of aliens visiting a post-apocalyptic earth. This was originally presented orally on March 27, 1949 during a University of Chicago Round Table of the Air program...it was delivered "off the air" and has only appeared in print in the original transcript of the program, not for general circulation. A scarce title.

NY: Funk & Wagnalls, 1888. Hardcover. VG+. ...written to those girls, who have not time or inclination to think and study about the many important things which make up life and living." Copyright date is 1887, this is the 1888 printing. 16mo, navy cloth with gilt titles on front cover, 139 pages. VERY GOOD+ with slight rubbing to the spine head and tail and corners, slightly "dusty" top page edge, internally clean and tight. The Tuesday evening gatherings spent together in "Practical Talk" - which later grew into the first Working Girls' Society. Dodge was a prolific writer; her papers are in the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College. A very nice copy of this rare book.

DESCRIPTION: Special reprint from the Saturday Evening Post, © 1948 Curtis Publishing; this 1986 edition printed letterpress by The Anthoensen Press of Portland, Maine is limited to 1500 copies. However, there is a bookplate on the rear paste-down saying "This special edition is limited to 50 copies. This copy number 36 (handwritten in)", and includes a business card from the Press. 8vo. green cloth with pictorial paste-on, gilt titles on front board and spine, b/w woodcuts as chapter headings. 25 pages. CONDITION: NEAR FINE / no jacket: small mark on front board, tiny brown stain on bottom page edge of last 5 pages, otherwise like new.

Number 11 of the Crown Octavos published by The House of Books and made by Peter Beilenson, Mount Vernon, New York. Condition: VERY GOOD book / no jacket: there is typical sunning the blue cloth on the spine and around the edges of the front and back boards, a penciled owner name on front eps has been erased. Internally clean and tight.

Condition is VERY GOOD+ with slight edgewear, slight discoloring to covers at edges, 2 small stains on rear cover. Calvin Coolidge took the brunt of many a cartoon - having a "Silent Cal" right now might be a good thing.

Circus pop-up book illustrated by Vojtech Kubasta, no date but circa 1960. 4to, stiff front illustrated cardboard, stiffer rear board opens up to the pop-up, story inside "Tony and the Circus Boy" has 8 pages and 2 b/w text illustrations. Condition: VERY GOOD - : light rubbing all around, spine tail has a ¼" chip with a 1"tear, crease along bottom edge of front cover, rubbing along interior spine, old sticker residue on front cover; the lovely pop-up is in very nice condition.

Paris: A. Capendu, Editeur / Emrik and Binger, 1890. Soft cover. VG. Une Soirée au Cirque ABC, "Volume indéchirable sur toile." No publications date noted, but WorldCat says two editions were published in 1890 in France. 4to, stiff illustrated wraps, French text, [12] pages, linen cloth, illustrations by color lithography, front endpapers the alphabet A-Z in capital letters, rear endpaper has letters in lower case, each page provides a poem [in French] and color illustrations of various circus acts: acrobats, flying trapezes, bicycles, chariot races, dogs acts, elephants, horses, seals, kangaroos, pigs, ostriches, lions and tigers and bears (oh my!), ending with a yack and a zebra, and all including the various circus performers. Condition: VERY GOOD with some edgewear, crease to front cover, the spine is rubbed with the paper overlay on the canvas rubbed off in a few places, internally clean. A delightful and very rare piece of Circus and ABC lore.
