Number III in the set of 6 of the Milner Toys, of which Henry Milner is the protagonist. In this story he learns more about animals, but also about the kindness of his father toward a bedfast woman. Seventeen half-page woodcuts. Title page reads "Uncle Frank's Select Fables for Good Boys and Girls," while back cover reads "Moral and Entertaining Fables for Children." This booklet is No. IV in the series of 6, and contains l7 short fables. Very good condition. Cover paper is light yellow. Paginated 1, then 172-204. Number IV in the series of Milner Toys. In this story, Henry Milner goes to great lengths, and depths, to learn about amphibia. Another of the moralizing tales of Mrs. Sherwood(1775-1851). Ca. 1851. This was the Family Bible of Ann and Thomas Flint Field (Cheesemonger), of Fielden, Bedfordshire, parishioners of Christ Church, Newgate. The two-page handwritten account on front endpaper of Volume I gives birth, death, and baptism dates for all 10 children. The fourth son, WILLIAM (VENTRIS) FIELD, born August 21, 1813, had a long and distinguished career in law, and tried many important cases. Published five years after its initial publication, this edition was produced for use in schools, and is fairly scarce. The novel ends with p. 296. Following is a biographical note about the author. Original decorative beige cloth over boards with brown lettering with reinforcement at spine (possibly added by original owners, the Saint John Law Society, whose name is printed at the bottom of each spine). Leather(?) labels with contents of each volume printed on spine. Most volumes have minor handsoiling to the covers. All volumes have been reinforced inside front and back covers with bookbinding tape, but despite that, most have breaks in the hinge within the first few pages. This has resulted in about ten of the 7046+ pages being separated (all are present). Some of the pages are uncut, and there is some damage to a few due to careless attempts at opening them.
