Publisher's original wheat colored cloth over boards, silver lettering and decorations to spine and front cover. Presentation Copy. Inscribed and dated a full month prior to publication. "8/12/1983 To Ruth Rogers, Mark Helprin ". [Not a shred of proof, but seems likely to be American ex-pat to England, River Cafe chef and owner Ruth Rogers. Additionally, years later, this copy found it's way into the library of the well known collector Otis Skinner Blodgett with his personal bookplate, signed and dated by him [London, 2001], affixed to the front paste-down. Book Condition: Gently pushed spine ends, superficial scuff mark to spine, else fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Wear to the extremities, spine ends and tips show salt and pepper loss; top to bottom crease to front flap, small tear to rear fold at bottom edge with bits of loss. Ttitle, author, and decoration in steel and gilt onlay to front cover. Book Condition: Near Fine with wear to the covers mostly along the spine, a very sound binding and pristine interior. This is copy number 200 of a total edition of 1100. Only the first 200 copies are printed on hand made Van Gelder paper and bound in full leather. Signed by the author and the illustrator; Theodore Dreiser and Robert Fawcett. A sharp copy of a lovely production. Theodore Dreiser was nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature in 1930; though as it turned out, that was the year that the prize was awarded to Sinclair Lewis.

Dust Jacket Condition: As new. This book has been handled just enough to photograph and is pristine. Signed and numbered to the title page by the author (#16 of 25). Included with this limited edition is an original, one-of-a-kind, collage by the author. This small intricately constructed work is enclosed in a glassine envelope attached to the first free endpaper; it is both initialed and authenticated with the artist's trademark fingerprint in red ink on the back of the work. The original Krome Kraft product catalog with a profusion of half-tone illustrations, depicting hundreds of named and numbered Krome Kraft pieces in all their chromium plated hollowware glory. This product catalog is further distinguished by a constant stream of flowery prose: "Make drinking a joy! Make hospitality a delight! Welcome becomes double welcome when offered in these sparkling hostess sets of fine glass and finest quality Chromium Plate." A sammelbande of approx. 40 assorted glees, catches, rounds, and canons. Approximately 40 individual compositions from an indeterminate number of sources bound into a single volume. Book Condition: Completely perished at the spine with bookbinder's tape utilized for re-backing some time ago. Covers worn through to the boards at the corners and along all edges. Binding quite sound with all compositions firmly installed. A wide assortment of chips, creases and folds throughout though there are no chips, folds, or crease affecting a single note of music or letter of text. Moderate-to-heavy-to-complete lack of foxing to pages, most pages bright and free of blemish. An extraordinary greatest hits of the day collection. A suite of seven intaglio prints, each signed and dated by the artist, printed on Arches Velin paper. The seven prints are loose, as issued, in a folder of Arches Velin heavyweight stock with titling recto, and colophon to recto after the fold, this folder, with the 7 prints inside, is housed in a chemise of rust colored linen over boards, green end papers and ribbon ties at North, South and East. Images are approx. 3 x 4 inches, sheets measure approx 10 x 12 inches. From the limitation page: "Printed in Paris in the autumn of 1968 by Leacouriere Frelaut, under the artist's supervision from his original intaglio-colograph zinc plates.
