About This Item

Women's Auxiliary Stroudsburg, PA. Very Good. 1942. First Edition. Softcover. Publishers illustrated stiff paper covers in spiral binding. 450 pp. With local ads. Frontispiece of Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church. The Forward is a Henry Van Dyke quote. Illustrated profusely. There are 11 illustrations of historical buildings or areas each with unique captions such as "Cherry Valley Church built in 1828 on historic property known as Shaws Meadows, originally owned by John McDowell who married Nicholas DePuys' grand daughter [sic]." Of interest are short penciled notes (some in red) of the original owner, long time resident Una Kestler Stemple. She adds her personal knowledge to 3 locations and occasional contributor. Recipes are reproductions of signed, handwritten originals. Advertisements of local business, many with hand drawn lettering and illustration. Condition: one of the wire end is short thus the bottom punch hole to be broken through to page 11; the cover has surface soil and some spotting. The contents are clean except for the penciled notes name penned on the ffep. The quaint full page section illustrations are attributed to "DT."
