(c.1880's) Folio, 10 1/2" x 13 1/2". 136 pp.+2pp index, title page printed in black and red, all edge gilt, illustrated with 5 full-page steel engravings on heavy card stock, one vignette, and over 100 wood engravings. Bound in tooled full leather, covers with center panel bordered by intricate, Middle-Eastern gilt cross design; paneled spine with gilt designs and raised bands. Some foxing to endpapers, but text pages are clean and bright, old, amusing bookplate of "ne obliviscaris", beneath a wing-eared boar head, on pastedown, covers scuffed along the edges with a few chips, outer front hinge cracked, but cover remains tight. All plates present, internally very good, Very good minus.. Hard. Very Good Minus/No Jacket, As Issued. Folio.

Cairo, [Egypt]: George Ch. Dovas, 1898. An unusually nice copy. Very Good++ condition. SEE PHOTOS. Handsomely bound in the original red pebble-grained cloth (imitation leather), with blind-stamped rectangular borders and gilt titles on the front cover and spine. On the cover are gold-stamped images of the sphinx (sphynx) and a pyramid. All gilt stamping is still bright and shiny. Original yellow (silk?) endpapers are a bit speckled but all other pages are creamy white, clean and unmarked with NO foxing. NO owner's name or bookplate. No date of publication (but copyright 1898). Hinges are perfect. Oblong Hardcover. 11" wide by 8" tall. All edges gilt. This souvenir photo-album has 109 leaves, mostly printed on the rectos only (i.e. versos are usually blank). Most of the photos are full-page. In original green cloth, worn along joints and edges, with 3cm peel along joint near head, yet sound and entire, with some reinforcement. Text and illustrations in excellent shape, free of foxing or other blemishes. Top edge gilt. Old bookplates removed from front endleaves. Old booksellers' notes in pencil on front pastedown. References: Wood, p. 192; Nissen ZBI 110. Most probably only 100 copies were issued of this very rare and important contribution to the mammals of Egypt.
