Very Good Plus, the pages uniformly browning, spine ever so slightly sunned and title label a bit rubbed. The author's first successful novel, basis for a 1964 TV movie in France. . First Edition. Quarter Buckram. Very Good Plus. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Finely bound in red leather, tooled in blind and gilt, raised bands on the spine, gilt tooled board edges and inner dentelles. All edges gilt. Illustrations with tissue guards. Finely bound by Lauriat, Boston in red morocco over red buckram, gilt stamped device of St. Marks School, Southborough front cover, gilt floral decorations back, marbled end papers, top edge gilt. Presentation bookplate laid in, having loosened from front paste down, awarding this finely bound book to David Robertson Sawyier for First Prize for Scholarship. Sawyier was an American rower for the 1972 Summer Olympics who later had a distinguished legal career. A Fine and lovely copy, gift quality. . Eighth Printing. Half Morocco. EXTRA ILLUSTRATED SET. 6 published engravings by Cruikshank plus an extra 98 plates, mostly 18th and early 19th century, including one hand coloured engraving, and one colour lithograph. Finely bound in nineteenth century full red morocco by Zaehnsdorf. Boards with multiple ruled borders and inner panel with decorative corner pieces. Spines with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments fully gilt with decoration and lettering. Inner boards with gilt ruling and decoration. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. A little rubbing to the extremities and a couple of very minor bumps to edges but overall a near fine bright set in lovely decorative bindings.

Printed for Francis Coggan. London. 1706. Fourth year, of a total of 11 published, but complete in itself. 8vo. (7.8 x 5.1 inches). iv, 288pp, 72pp Appendix, 10pp Index. Two fold out plates, one the order of the battle of the confederate armies, 18th July 1705, the second a plan of the town and castle of Nice. A very good copy in a recent binding of half dark brown calf. Spine with raised bands, the compartments ruled and lettered in gilt, marbled paper on boards. One split to the fold-out plan of Nice, without any los, but generally this is very good indeed.

Paris: Chez Henrichs, Libraire, Rue de la Loi, 1804. 1st Edition . Leather Bound. Fair/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Octavo. xvi, 355 pages. Hardcover bound in full speckled calf leather with floral rules around the edges of the front and rear panels in gilt. Spine rules and tooling in gilt. Binding is rubbed and bumped. Top and bottom edges of the spine are worn away. Outer edges of the text block are speckled. Hinges are secure. Early bookplate on the front pastedown shows a pyramid surrounded by a globe, spyglass, books and lyre and with the name engraved below, "Ex Libris L A. A. B. de St. Maurice." The interior is toned and has some damping at the top edge towards the front of the book. Text is in French. A history of pirates and buccaneers in the West Indies in the 17th and 18th Centuries. Originally published in German.

The bindings almost certainly by Bayntun of Bath, having been in the same family home in Bath since their purchase, and match exactly the style of other Alice bindings by the firm from this period.
