Description:
Francois-Seraphin Delpech, Paris, 1824; Hand colored stone lithograph of enigmatic Bourbon aristocrat Louis Philippe Joseph, Duke Of Orleans (1747-1793), whose dedication to the ideas of Rousseau led to his becoming an active supporter of the French Revolution, eventually giving up his own name and title in favor of "Philippe Egalité", for which act he became wildly popular. In the end, however, the complexities of political intrigue endemic to all revolutions resulted in his demise, and he was guillotined during the Reign Of Terror on November 30, 1793. Drawn, lithographed, and signed in the stone by French painter/printmaker Jean-Baptiste Mauzaisse (1784-1844) one of the first of French artists to adopt the process, then in its infancy. Original hand coloring. Published by notable early nineteenth century Parisian print shop proprietor Francois-Seraphin Delpech (1785-1836). Sheet size 12 1/4" x 10 1/8". Very Good condition. Description:
1674 1ed ENGLISH Montluc Military War Commentaries France Solider Bible Firearms

Blaise de Montluc was a 16th-century Marshal of France whose fame comes solely from his 'Commentaries'. In this book, Montluc describes his life-long service to the French military – a book that was called the 'soldier's Bible' by King Henry IV. Historically speaking, this book is one of the best references to the development of the French infantry firearm, even though Montluc himself was displeased at how it changed over time.
This first English edition of 'Commentaries of Messire Blaize de Montluc' was translated out of French into English by Charles Cotton.

Keen to have these biological rarities recorded in lifelike watercolor, Josephine engaged the foremost plant illustrator of the day, Pierre-Joseph Redoute, to paint 120 of them on fine parchment, and commissioned Etienne-Pierre Ventenat, librarian of the Pantheon in Paris, to write accompanying plant… Read More
