The Shulchan Aruch, also known as the 'Code of Jewish Law', is an extensive collection of legal codes under Rabbinical Judaism. From its appearance in the mid-16th-century, this work is regularly paired with law commentaries, as is the case with this 1880 edition. The Yoreh De'ah is also found in this work, a section of the law covering lesser aspects of Jewish law such as honoring parents, circumcision, forbidden foods, and studying Torah scrolls.
This particular enormous three-volume set was published in 1880 in Vilnius, Lithuania while it was under Russian control. Census records indicate that the Jewish population approached nearly half of the population in Vilnius at the time of publication. It would be expected that Hebrew law texts such as this be found in Vilnius during the 1880s and 1890s.

Johann Hottinger's "Juris Hebraorum Leges" is a rare 17th-century commentary on Hebrew Law. In the 13th-century, Spanish rabbi Aaron ha-Levi wrote what is considered to be the first written instruction to medieval Jews, the 'Sefer ha Chinuch'. Aaron ha-Levi wrote on moral precepts and biblical law – a tradition which was used in the Hebrew world for centuries. Hottinger used Aaron's lessons as the basis for this work, a work which covers countless topics of Hebrew and Jewish law, including commentary on the 613 commandments and 261 precepts examined in Aaron's "Sefer ha Chinuch".

Christian Schottgen was an early 18th-century German Bible historian best-known for his 'Hebrew Hours and Talmud in the New Testament' – a commentary on the New Testament written through the lens of the Talmud. In the mid-17th-century, English rabbi John Lightfoot wrote a similarly titled work which became the basis for Schottgen's most important work. First published in 1733, this work became one of the most important religious texts for Messianic Jews in Europe.

You get one antique Die Juden in Memmingen by Dr. Julius Miedel 1909 softcover book published by Otto in Germany. This item is in German. This book is in good overall condition with some wear to its covers and edges. The spine is cracked in the back and the last ten, or so, pages are attached by two of the threads, but are not completely loose. The foldout Guggenheimer family tree is still attached to the inside of the rear cover. The pages are clean, except for an etching of a church on the first page, and have slight tanning. Included free are a few old articles. There are no print copies available in WorldCat, This item is 8 inches tall by 5.5 inches wide.
