Schutz includes satirical anecdotes intended for humor as well as a curious inclusion of a letter by Thomas More.

1787 Scottish Bellenden De Statu Libri Tres Classical LAW Edmund Burke Parr Fox
William Bellenden was an early 17th-century Scottish scholar known for his studies on Cicero, Roman Law and Senate, and general classical history. He published three works over the course of the first few years of the 17th-century, all of which were published under the title 'De Statu Libri Tres'. While this work was first published in 1615, it didn't gain its popularity until 1787 when Samuel Parr published a Latin edition known for its elegant style.
The controversial preface of this edition by Parr became a political tract supporting the political views of Edmund Burke, Charles Fox, and Frederick North.

An incredibly rare and impressive Elzevier printing of Thomas Smith's "Anglorum". During the first half of the 17th-century, Elzevier published numerous works on European countries designed for travel and studies (Respublica). Smith, a 16th-century English diplomat, was the Secretary of State under King Edward VI of England. He also served under Elizabeth I, and was one of her most trusted Protestant advisors. His most important books was 'De Republica Anglorum' – in which Smith described England's government style as a commonwealth. This work has become a staple in the study of the English constitution.

Junius was the pseudonym of a writer who contributed a series of letters to the Public Advertiser, a London newspaper, from 1769 to 1772. The 'Letters of Junius' composed of 68 letters between the 'Public Advertiser,' Philo Junius, Sir William Draper, and Mr. Horne. It was written to notify the public of their historical and constitutional rights and describe how the government had disregarded those rights. This 1806 edition was published by Phillips and Adlard in London, beautifully bound!

John Selden is generally considered England's first legal historian. He questioned all of his contemporaries and their definition of 'history.' He spent time trying to discover history by researching the past, more so than that of his colleagues. Selden sought to change this, particularly in Table-Talk where he provides advice and understanding on various topics such as money management, being honest, when to plan crops, plus other spiritual guides.

As a member of the Scottish Parliament, Mackenzie published a collection of his own observations on the acts and laws established by numerous British royals including Queen Mary, Kings James I-VI, Charles I and Charles II.
Notably, the acts and discussions covered a wide variety of topics, as could be expected. It is, however, those that pertained to witches and witchcraft garnered the most attention. During the reign of Queen Mary, the 73rd act covered the practice of witchcraft, as well as consulting witches or foretelling the future – an act punishable by death!
