Description:
1696 Hebrew Republic Judaism Judaica Republican Semitism Cunaeus + Angels Occult

Petrus Cunaeus was an early 17th-century Dutch scholar whose 'Hebrew Republic' is considered, according to Tuck, "the most powerful statement of republican theory in the early years of the Dutch Republic."(Tuck, 169)
"De Republica Hebraeorum" describes ancient Hebrew kingdoms and portrays it as the model of republican governments. This book was highly influential on the formation of the Dutch Republic, even though Cunaeus foresaw the Dutch government falling just as Rome did. Ultimately, Cunaeus sought for the book to instill tolerance toward 17th-century Jews through the publication of 'Republica.'
This book is curiously bound with Sebastian Schmidt's 'Succinctae & Solidae' – an extremely rare occult work and commentary on angels from the Bible.
