One of the rarest, and most elusive, of all botanical works. As stated in Gordon Dunthorne's Flower and Fruit Prints of the Eighteenth and early Nineteenth Centuries, London. 1938: Hortus Nitidissimis is one of the finest records of the cultivated flowers of the period, containing full-sized coloured of the figures. London, 1914. Single sheet.. Very Good. James McBey.. (Hardie 148) A etching made in 1914. Number 9 of an edition of 50 copies. A very good impression on antique laid paper with a eagle and snake watermark. My conservator suggested this was 17th century paper.There was light foxing near the number which has been cleaned. (See photo with watermark) Signed and numbered in ink. "The south bank of the Thames, at Bermondsey round the curve of the muddy shore, barges are lying under warehouses. In the foreground, four men are repairing a barge, while another stands on the deck, working a pump." (Hardie). Italy: The Artist SIGNED BY ARTIST in pencil lower left, title lower right. No date, no place, circa 1930s. Original etching on thick stiff cream wove paper. Stamped "Fine Arte G. Panatta, Via F. Crispi 117 Roma" top edge verso, soiling verso, 1" closed tear and 1/2" chip right edge, toning at margins, darker at bottom edge, all flaws would be hidden by mat. Unframed and unmatted, paper size 14" x 19 3/4", plate size 9 1/4" x 11 1/2". A wonderful Italian engraver, Laurenzi is little known in the U.S. . SIGNED BY ARTIST. Print. Very Good.
