"He published also two complete volumes and part of a third entitled FRUITS OF AMERICA, purposing to give `richly colored figures and full descriptions of all the choicest varieties cultivated in the United States.' This work was issued in parts from 1847 to 1856, though the title page of the first complete volumes bears the date 1852. A unique collection, in text and images, of the entomology studies from the leading authorities at the time. Most notable of the entomologists, Jan Swammerdam, who pioneered the use of the microscope for use in anatomy drawing, and anatomical conclusions through the use of insects, animals and finally humans. He was the first to observe red blood cells with a microscope. Text clean, one or two leaves with minor stains, plates are bright and fresh.
