Milano: Nella Stamperia del Giornale Italico, 1803. First Edition. Half-Leather. Good. Signed by both authors opposite the index. Language: Italian. There is a prior owner's name written on the top left corner of the front endpaper, as well as an attached bookplate; there is also a small stamp on the title page; no other owners' marks. The pages are considerably rippled, and there are water-stains and foxing in the margins of several pages, though there is no adhesion or associated odor; p. 345 bears a large tear at the bottom free corner, with some text loss. Binding is relaxed at the hinges, with some stitching exposed, but is otherwise secure. The gilt titles at the spine remain clear and legible, but there is noticeable flaking and rubbing to the leather spine, with a small chip at the spine heel and heavy wear at the corners; the marbled design on the paper hard cover is almost entirely rubbed away, and there is significant wear at the cover edges, otherwise sound. 357 pp. + Index and 10… Read More

From the signed, limited, numbered first printing, this is number 266, signed by the author at the limitation page opposite the full title. The pages are bright saving some toning around the deckled edges and quite clean except for a very few scattered spots of foxing; no owners' marks; the quarter cloth binding leans gently to the right but remains tight; the paper boards and paper title plate at the spine show some chipping around the edges, with a pressure mark at the bottom right front corner, a small inward turn and surface scuff at the top left rear corner, and some surface creasing at the corners and right edge of the title plate; some fading is also evident along the head edges of the paper and along the right rear, and the title plate is age-toned; nonetheless, a remarkably clean and attractive book, well-preserved. 459pp.; an extra copy of the title plate is tipped in at the… Read More

Complete eight-volume set, each volume bound in half-leather with marbled boards borded in gilt, banded spines with gilt titles and decoration, gilded head edges, marbled endpapers. Signed and inscribed to a named individual by Richard Olney on the title page. Clean and bright except for one light fingerprint on the foreedge of the page block and one faint gray spot on the red topstain; square, secure binding, full white cloth hard cover modestly softened and rubbed at corners and spine ends, otherwise excellent. Dust jacket bears a tiny, closed tear at the top front, lines of mild toning around the top and bottom rear, a long crease to the front interior flap, very shallow crimping at spine ends, and gentle shelfwear at spine ends and corners, otherwise clean and lovely, not priceclipped, now protected in a clear sleeve.; Signed by Author.

Full original calf, with both fixed endpapers freed from the boards but still attached to the page block; the front hinge is now covered by the large bookplate of Hugh Cecil Lowther, Fifth Earl of Lonsdale, accompanied but not obscured by a small, penned note and the plate of Dallas oil giant John W. McReynolds; the binding is relaxed enough to show cords, but secure. Pages bear mild age-toning around the margins and light foxing at preliminaries and terminals, with only ghosts of decoration at block edges; chestnut leather bears an open pull sign at the spine head, only residue of the title plate, long scuffs at both shoulders and a shorter one at upper spine with some cracking and a tiny bore stopped along the spine, wear down to the follicles around the front board (less so on the rear) approaching exposure at free corners, mere score lines around board edges and across spine where once was gold, and a few stray, small ink spots and droplet… Read More

McReynolds; a few additional, small inky spots and one brief note within the page block, none obstructive; ffep and first blank leaf bear open tears at bottom free corners and a short closed tear at foreedge of title, and both endpapers show light foxing, with residue of decoration at page block edges, otherwise sound, two-color printing with some spectacular ligatures. Signed by the author at the colophon and numbered 4 of 5 (presentation copies in the limited first edition), this book contains a bound-in original oil painting by Charles Bukowski, still protected with the original tissue guard; laid in is Black Sparrow Press Broadside/Flyer No. 7, itself signed by Bukowski and numbered 8/100. Crisp, bright pages; green boards show gentle sunning along the head edges, and spine plate is also mildly sunned, but red cloth spine is fresh; even the original acetate outer cover is near fine, with a touch of finish wear.; Signed by Author.
