Philadelphia: JPS, 1975. Accompanied by 8 leaves in facsimile of the oldest, illustrated printed Haggadah in folding chemise with red morocco label gilt. Boards, chemise and slipcase in matching marbled boards and book backed in red crushed morocco gilt. TEG. Number 76 of 252 copies of which 200 are numbered and 52 lettered. 200 plates in facsimile within the book.. Limited/Numbered. Leather Backed Boards. Paris: L. Curmer, 1843. Dark green morocco spine and tips, 4 raised bands gilt. Green marbled boards, all edges sprinkled red. Some shelfwear and bumping on edges, especially bottom of lower cover, though this is a very sturdy binding. Spine expertly repaired with original spine laid down. Top corner of lower cover is new and beautifully matched to other tips. An engraved title page dated 1842 appears followed by the usual 1843 title page. Owner bookplates, one over the other, on front pastedown. Endpapers and pastedowns have some staining which extends into margins of book not affecting text or plates. First page of Sleeping Beauty repaired at top with Japanese paper. Heavily illustrated with Blanchard engravings after Paquet, Marvy, Jeanron, Jacque and Beauce. Endpaper pastedowns and boards are in a blue green and brown marble paper. Silk markers, silk headers and TEG all volumes. Bindings signed by Root & Son. There are numerous engraved plates. Contains the following titles: Pogo, I Go Pogo, The Pogo Papers, The Incompleat Pogo, Uncle Pogo So-So Stories, and The Pogo Stepmother Goose. Front free endpapers of each volume are inscribed with Pogo drawing and signature of Walt Kelly. The quarto volume contains an explanation by the incribee's brother of the biblio background of these volumes of which only 2 sets exist.. Inscribed By the Author. First Thus Various Printings. First state dust jacket with Walker Percy blurb on lower panel. Jacket has a few tiny nicks on edges and faint rubbing over the book's joints. All in all, an outstanding copy.. Second Printing. Spines decoratively tooled and lettered in gilt with roses and leaves in four panels with title and volume lettering in panels 2 and 6 all separated by 5 raised bands. Many unopened pages. Spines with 5 raised bands rubbed and gilt titling and volume lettering directly on morocco in panels 2 and 4. 124 plates depicting the moths all present.
