Candidates of the Third Officers' Training School, Camp Sherman, Ohio, Jan. 5 --April 19, 1918. Softcover. Condition: Very Good+ No dust jacket. 93 pp of crisp, white leaves with profuse b/w drawn illustrations throughout. No foxing. Prior owner attribution dated April 27, 1918 on front free endpaper from Glenn M. Hood to Mary Jane Nixon. (Glenn M. Hood is listed on page 92 among the roster of Clerical Force of Company K, 331st Infantry along with his picture on page 14.) This book is a very rare compilation of a training manual that prepared U. S. Army officers to go to WW I. It contains the Roster of the Third Officers Training School present at Camp Sherman near Chillicothe, Ohio. The book also contains b/w group photographs of the training officers and each of the Infantry and Battery training classes. The back cover has a small water stain near the bottom edge at the spine and the bottom outer edge corner is missing. Otherwise, in remarkable condition for its age and construction.

Inside there is some discoloration to the front endpaper & the name of a previous owner in pencil- otherwise the pages are clean & free from foxing or annotation. There is some cracking between the frontis & title page with the stitching exposed but nothing is loose or missing & the other pages are firmly bound. Illustrated with maps in b/w. .

Includes numerous photos and drawings, also four fold-out maps and charts. See attached images for table of contents. Signed on front free endpaper by Roscoe L. Elstrot (1895-1987), who enlisted in the Army on June 28, 1918 and served as a private until his release on December 12, 1918. His copy. Includes full index. Bound in black cloth with gilt lettering to front panel. Scarce. 183 pp. 6 1/4" 4 7/8". Tight, unmarked copy with minimal shelf wear and very slight corner bumping. This beautiful memoir has a 3/4 binding with marbled dark blue boards and gilt edges. Inside of both boards and flyleaves also beautifully marbled. It is a first edition with a tissue-guarded frontispiece. Minimal scuffing along the sides of the spine, edges and corners. Pages tight and clean. Illustrations by author's brother Charles Huard, who was the official painter to the Sixth Army in France--12 illustrations and a full-page pen-and-ink sketch of a French soldier opposite the frontispiece. Bookplate inside the front cover reads "Edmund Lincoln Baylies" (1857-1932), who was a NY lawyer and member of NY high society during the Gilded Age. A very good copy and fine addition to any library.

Rev. Henry Clapham Foster was the chaplain to the Second Royal Naval Brigade under Commodore Oliver Backhouse. This is a memoir of his time serving in World War I in Belgium, Turkey, and Gallipoli.
Some pages are unevenly cut, some foxing on pages edges, cover in good condition with slightly bumped corners. Former owner's 1918 signature on front flyleaf.

Henry Morgenthau, Sr. (18656-1946) served as the United States Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire during World War I, under President T. Woodrow Wilson had a successful career as a lawyer, real estate investor, and the Reform Jewish community leader in New York City.This work by Morgenthau is the definitive account of the Armenian Genocide during the last years of the Ottoman Empire, as well as his views on the creation of a Jewish State. His son, Henry Morgenthau Jr. served as the Secretary of the Treasury for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. His grandson, Robert M. Morgenthau, would serve as the District Attorney for Manhattan for 35 years.

1934. String tied album, scrapbook-style. Very Good/No Dust Jacket As Issued. Scrapbook-style string tied album of photos captained in English and Japanese. Held in a stapled slipcase. The front shows a map of Japan in gilt with titles and a 'Red Cross'. 10.25 by 7.25 inches; 66 unnumbered pages the last page is a map/plan of the hospital. Inscribed on the rear paste-down in Japanese. The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear with modest fading of the cloth. The slipcase is sound with handling marks. We have not located any other copies. There is one similar recorded in OCLC/WorldCat but has only 18 pages and another of 63 pages at Harvard. One may be at the Mahidol Univ Library, Thailand but there is not enough details given to determine. The Japanese Red Cross Medical Center is a hospital located in Hiroo, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.
