Subtitled: Rickenbacker’s Full Story Including His Message to America. Introduction by W.L. White. A later printing. Very Good to Near Fine book with bit of slant and slight starting at front hinge, in a similar jacket with light edge wear and slight rubbing, price of $2.50 present. Quite nice copy that is signed and inscribed by author on first FEP in blue ink and dated 1962. Rickenbacker was the U.S.’ most famous Ace during WWI. He was a civilian in WWII but was on a mission to the Asian Theatre, supposedly to deliver a secret message to McArthur. The B-17 he was in went down in the Pacific, and this book is his recounting of the survivors drifting at sea in life rafts for 24 days before being rescued.

Destiny Can Wait was originally intended to be a "preliminary account embodying first-hand source material for those who will some day write a full history of the Polish Air Force during this period."; remains a valuable, primary source.

This is a jacketed copy of the U.S. first edition, only printing of the sixth of Churchill's seven war speech volumes. Victory contains speeches from January to August 1945. Having done so much to win the war, Churchill faced frustration of his postwar plans when his wartime government fell to Labor in the General Election of July 1945. His final speech in this volume - a review of the war delivered on 16 August 1945 to the House of Commons - is delivered as Leader of the Opposition rather than as Prime Minister. Condition is good plus in a good dust jacket. The red cloth binding is square, clean, bright, and tight, though with bumps to the corners and wrinkling to the spine ends. This rare end-of-war report on Switzerland's armed forces and defence is particularly interesting because of the manuscript signature of first owner Le colonel de cavalerie Albert de Tscharner, last of the great Swiss merceneries who died in 1948. It is offered as a companion book to Bernard Barbey: P. C. du Général which includes an autograph dedicace to de Tscharner by Général Guisan.

Text in English, French and Flemish. Also contains a CD rom, and three glossy photographs. An unusual production, cloth bow beneath a laminated plastic back cover lettered in three languages with green cloth front cover held firm with a black cloth vertical tie.

Illustrated tan cloth. xii, 274, viii pp. Photos. Laurence was a science correspondent with the New York Times and was tapped by U. S. Army Major General Leslie Groves, Director of the Manhattan Project, to be its official historian. Laurence was present at the Trinity test at Alamogordo, New Mexico on July 16, 1945 and has dramatic photos of the bomb as it explodes. Other photos in the book show the after-effects of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
