First UK edition, first impression (Michael Joseph, 1960). The UK edition is far more uncommon than that of the US, which was published the previous year.
One of the best and most influential ghost stories published in the 20th century. The basis for past film adaptations and, most recently, a successful Netflix series in 2018.
Publisher's original black cloth with lettering to the spine in gilt. A better than near fine book with faint off-setting to endpapers and a very minor and inconspicuous knock to the bottom corner of upper board.
The original and unclipped dust jacket has been fantastically preserved with just one small closed tear to the top edge of upper panel and a hint of toning to verso in places, else near fine and beautifully crisp and bright.
A very rare edition, and even more so in such fantastic condition.
