A bright set in publisher's cloth First edition in book form of the final "Barsetshire" novel, following the 32 sixpenny parts, published weekly from December 1866 to July 1867. Harper's US edition was, as often, published the same year, but in a single-volume format. 2 volumes, octavo. Original dark blue sand-grain cloth, titles and decorations in gilt to spines and front boards, rule frames in blind to boards, pale yellow endpapers. Each volume with wood-engraved frontispiece and 15 similar plates, all with tissue-guards, numerous in-text illustrations, and 2 pp. of publisher's advertisements at end of vol. 2. Lythe Hill book labels to front boards, armorial bookplates of Oliver Brett (1881-1963), 3rd Viscount Esher, to front pastedowns, W.H. Smith circulating library embossed stamps to front free endpapers with "Sligo" ink inscriptions. Slight wear to extremities, the bindings otherwise bright and notably unfaded, slightly shaken, very occasional faint spotting, hinges cracked but holding to vol. 1; an attractive set.
