First American edition, stated, of this Col. Granby espionage mystery, one title in Palmer & Saunders’ series of the British Secret Service featuring a numeral, often set against the backdrop of trying to derail the peace of Europe between the Wars.

Francis Beeding is a pseudonym for John Leslie Palmer and Hilary Saint George Saunders who co-authored 30+ novels together under the pseudonym. A Spy thriller published early during World War II. A VG copy in wrappers, it has a pronounced lean, but with no major problems otherwise. Now in an archival polybag for protection. .

A neat name and date on the FFEP and a name in pencil (now erased) crossed out in ink on the front paste-down. A VG copy. In the uncommon D/W priced 7/6 net to the inside flap (as called for). The D/W has a touch of wear to the extremities and a triangular chip at the base of the spine removing the H of "H & S" and the "HODDER and ST" of Hodder and Stoughton. Scans invited.
