Byron, Lord

London: John Murray 1819. 8vo. Three volumes. An early collected edition in original full straight grained morocco bindings, gilt and blind decorated with leather turned over on to the front pastedowns, also with gilt and blind decoration. All edges are gilt, endpapers are silk and there is a silk inlay on pastdowns creating 'panels'. Each volume has a beautiful early fore-edge painting of a different Italian scene. They look to have been applied after the gilding. A wonderful example in a fine binding that is just a little rubbed and creased. Very good. . Very Good. Full Morocco. 1819.

The Works of Lord Byron: With His Letters and Journals, and His Life, by Thomas Moore, Esq. (Complete in 17 Vols.)

Lord Byron

London: John Murray, 1832. Full leather. Very Good +. An impressive example of this original compilation of the works of Byron, complete in 17 volumes and bound --and signed-- in a full, mid to late 19th century red morocco by Root & Son of London. Each uniform volume has bright gilt-rule at the panels and 5 raised bands along each spine, with fine, decorative gilt-tooling at the compartments and offsetting leather title labels. All of the volumes are at least VG+ (or better) and only 1 or 2 show the lightest of wear along the spines and just a touch of staining at the panel edges. There's a bit of forgivable foxing at the endsheets but each volume is free of bookplates or writing or any other markings to the text. Each volume also includes a wonderful engraved title-page (all different engravings, each by E. Finden) which PRECEDES the printed title-page. 16mos, top-edges gilt, lovely marbled endpapers.

The Works of Lord Byron

BYRON, Lord

London: John Murray, 1821. Hardcover. Very good +. 12mo, 5 volumes. A bright, clean, completely unrestored set in contemporary 3/4 red straight-grained morocco over orange-reddish straight-grained morocco. Boards have some nicks to the extremities, a few of the boards are very gently soiled, but really a rather charming set in a distincly early-19th century binding, certainly very good. Some contemporary owner's markings, including a paragraph of notations on one leaf (not obscuring any printed text). Nice set with bright spine gilt, fit for any collector of English literature or fine bindings. Note that our scanner does not do justice to most red color tones, and thus when you receive this set in hand, you'll remark on the redness of the spines and corner tips, along with the orange-ness of the orange boards.

The Works of Lord Byron [The Wordsworth Poetry Library]

Lord Byron

Wordsworth Editions, Great Britain, 1996. Reprint. Softcover. Good Condition. With an Introduction, Bibliography and Glossary by Dr Paul Wright, Trinity College, Carmarthen. 'I mean to show things really as they are, not as they ought to be'. wrote Byron (1788-1824) in his comic masterpiece Don Juan, which follows the adventures of the hero across the Europe and near East which Byron knew so well, touching on the major political, cultural and social concerns of the day. This selection includes all of that poem, and selections from Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, and the satirical poems 'English Bards and Scotch Reviewers' and 'A Vision of Judgement'. Paul Wright's detailed introductions place Byron's colourful life and work within their broader social and political contexts, and demonstrate that Byron both fostered and critiqued the notorious 'Byronic myth' of heroic adventure, political action and sexual scandal. 860 pages.
