James Thomson's lengthy poems "The Seasons" are presented in their entirety, along with a brief "A Hymn" in a compact leatherbound edition, dated 1804. Volume 1 only (of 2). With an essay on the plan and character of Thomson's Seasons by J. Aikin, M.D. and a lengthy "Life of James Thomson" and "An Ode on the Death of James Thomson" by Mr. Collins. British poet James Thomson (1700-1748) was born in Scotland, lived in England, and was the author of the lyrics of "Rule, Britannia!" --- In full leather with remnant of spine gilding, though no spine titling is visible. Also with gilt-decorated cover edges. --- Textblock edges are quite tanned and with foxing & dampstains throughout. Leather covers are chafed and with tears, and the back has chafing, especially at spine ends. A leaf opposite the title page (likely a frontis illustration) has been torn out and is missing.; 24mo 5" - 6" tall; l, 166 pages .
