It is unusual to find Irena as the Grand Duchess preferred her children to lead their lives away from the public gaze. Grand Duchess Xenia and her daughter Irena photographed at her mother's home. Irena was the wife of Prince Yusopov who was one of the murderer's of Rasputin. She was considered a great beauty, but she retreated into a private life after her glittering life before the Revolution.

In 1905 he married Princess Margaret of Connaught. She was the elder daughter of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, third son of Queen Victoria, and Princess Louise Margaret of Prussia. Nicknamed Daisy and known in Sweden as Margareta, she died 30 years before her husband's accession to the throne of Sweden. On 1st May 1920, her father's 70th birthday, Margaret died suddenly in Stockholm. The official announcement said infection set in following a mastoid operation. At the time, she was eight months pregnant and expecting her sixth child. In announcing her death during traditional International Workers' Day celebrations, Swedish Prime Minister Hjalmar Branting said the sun had "gone out" at Stockholm Palace.
