Waldo: Genius in Orbit

HEINLEIN, ROBERT A. (DICK, PHILIP K.)

New York: Avon, 1950. First Edition - Paperback. From the library of Joan Simpson, the woman with whom science fiction author Philip K. Dick shared his last serious romantic relationship. Laid in is a documentation book mark stating that this book is from the Simpson library with photographs of Philip and Joan and with the text of a letter, dated April 27, 1977, which Philip wrote to his friend, noted book dealer Ray Torrence, lovingly and eloquently expressing his deep feelings for Joan. On the ending of their relationship in late 1977, this from ‘Divine Invasions. A Life of Philip K. Dick’ by Lawrence Sutin, pg. 252: “...Phil now balked at a permanent move back to Northern California, and Joan would not consider Orange County residence. The relationship ended. For years to come, Phil would miss Joan - the last woman with whom he lived in a serious relationship.” The original title of this novel was Waldo and Magic, Inc. From the rear cover: “First came the hairy apes - then came man - and then came Waldo - The next step in human evolution! Oversized, flabby, physically helpless - Waldo Farthingwaite Jones was the most unlikely superman this side of Alpha Centauri. But Waldo possessed the most incredible brain in history - and with it he controlled the world!” Very good lightly used copy with a touch of edge wear in printed wrappers.

WALDO - and - MAGIC INC.

Heinlein, Robert A.

Toronto: Signet Books - New American Library, 1970. 192 pp. Signet Book T4142. Light edge and corner wear with a flat uncreased spine; no interior markings but some darkening on the reverse of the covers. Both titles in a single volume: Waldo: Born the victim of a strange muscular atrophy, Waldo now ruled nearly the entire planet for, like it or not, those hairless apes called men desperately need him and the preterhuman genius they could not begin to understand. Waldo was willing to help, but only at a price...; and Magic, Inc: It started as an agency for magicians, complete with fully guaranteed services and bargain rates. It squeezed out the small independent magicians and expanded its sphere of influence to a stranglehold on Congress. Then an Oxford-educated Congo tribesman, a little old lady who dabbled in black magic, and two magic-consuming businessmen decided to tackle Hell's Establishment.... First Printing - First Thus. Paperback. Very Good.
