Description:
Winnipeg, MB: Turnstone Pr, 1984. Paperback. Very Good. Clean, tight, unmarked; age tanning; otherwise absolute minimal wear; appears unread; In these two plays, Ryga writes about Canada and its culture from the perspectives of Mexico and an Ukrainian immigrant. 'Portrait of Angelica" is a 'ballad play' set in a small Mexican town, and follows the interaction between Mexicans and a group of Canadian tourists. 'A Letter to My Son' is a fascinating portrait of Ivan Lepa, and old Ukrainian farmers. In between visits from the social worker, Lepa repeatedly drafts a letter to his son, a schoolteacher alienated from his robustly 'peasant' father.
