Burbank, CA: Warner Brothers, 1985. Collection of 17 vintage black-and-white studio still photographs from the 1985 film. From the collection of screenwriter Leonard Schrader.
A fictionalized biographical retelling of the life of acclaimed Japanese author Yukio Mishima, in which episodes from his writing are interwoven with tales from his life. Besides his life as a prolific writer, Mishima was an outspoken nationalist who formed his own private militia called the Tatenokai. His militia would go on to execute a failed, yet meticulously planned, "coup" of a nearby military base, during which Mishima and two others committed ritual suicide.
Set in Japan, shot on location in Tokyo.
All photos 8 x 10 inches. Fine condition.
Criterion Collection 432.
