About This Item
Paris: N.p., 1972. Collection of 20 original mounted slides and color transparencies issued by the Office du Tourisme Canadien, vernacular photos showing various non-urban locations, mostly in and around the province of Alberta. From the collection of Maryse Martres (Martin), with a typescript memorandum, and mailing envelope with annotations in manuscript ink, addressed to her from "M. Pollet" in Paris, dated 1972. Martres was a prolific French actress later involved in press relations, notably for Cinedis, and these photos may have been in consideration of location filming. She was acting at the time, so she may have been traveling abroad on a personal trip. All items housed in original glassine or paper sleeves, inside original French Kodak photo box.
Noted on the memorandum are locations throughout Canada, including the Narrows of St. John's Harbor, bathers on Cavendish Beach, Beaverbrook Art Gallery, covered bridges in Masonville, Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, Horseshoe Falls, old frontier mining town of Barkerville, and aerial views. All images seem to generate from Alberta, most transparencies indicated with small labels on the glassine sleeves, including "Rocky Mountain Goat," "Barges - Loading Fort McMurray," "oil rig drilling," "hunting - Grist Lake, Moose" with two hunters in red showcasing their trophy kill, "New Mining Town of Grand Cache," "gas and sulphur absorption Plant [Shell]," "logging operation," and four images in paper sleeves crediting photographers E. Bork and B. Engler, dated 1962 and 1964.
5 slides 2 x 2 inches, 15 transparencies 3.75 x 4.75 inches. Very Good plus overall, light oxidation to a few transparencies, one slide unmounted. Box Very Good overall.
Complete collation upon request.
