New York: Factory America, 1981. Vintage poster for the November 19, 1981 performance by New Order and Ike Yard at The Ukrainian Ballroom in New York City.
The poster was designed by Ike Yard member Stuart Argabright and Michael Shamberg, the head of the newly formed Factory Records outpost, Factory America. The poster would be-along with the concert itself-Factory America's first production, referenced in the poster itself ("A Fact A First"). Additional text along the bottom edge ("Fact A / Blind Dates") refers to both Factory America and legendary music promoter Ruth Polsky's booking agency Blind Dates.
The performance came only a week after the Factory Records release of New Order's first LP, "Movement." The band had not yet developed their signature electronic dance sound, and were still largely a post punk band in the wake of their previous incarnation, "Joy Division." The concert was filmed by Shamberg and released on VHS in 1983 as "Taras Schevchenko."
The time the band would spend in New York, exposing the members to post-disco, Latin freestyle, and electro, would strongly influence the group's change in musical direction.
Formed in 1980, Ike Yard was an experimental New York art rock collective formed in the ebbing days of No Wave, and were the first band signed to Factory America.

22.5 x 17.25 inches, on letterpress paper stock as issued. Lightly soiled and creased, with a couple of small closed tears at the folds, and a small chip at the top edge. Easily Very Good plus overall.
