Avalanche/The Kidnapping Of Roseta Uvaldo

The two short novels in this book were originally published in the late 1920's when Zane Grey was at the peak of his popularity. Country Gentleman and the Ladies Home Journal were the magazines. Avalanche tells the story of two brothers who fall in love with the same girl, and I think you can imagine what happens. The Kidnapping of Roseta Uvaldo is better known as a story titled, The Ranger, the lead story in a much earlier collection of Zane Grey stories published by Harpers in 1960. That in no way is a detraction from buying this book, as it is an excellent story well worth having and reading over and over. They both contain that descriptive quality of land and people as only Zane Grey can tell it. It's a shame that the mass-market paperback market is so soft and vulnerable; for I believe many of us who have collected those types of books for many years would still like to collect more of them by our favorite authors as "new" stories are being introduced all the time. And I know for a fact there are more Zane Grey works to be printed for the first time in paperback that all of us would love have.
