About This Item

New York & London: Harper & Bros, 1945. A decent First Edition copy of one of the highspots of XXth Century literature. Almost Near Fine condition - the textblock is fresh and unmarked (the wartime paper has stood up very well!) Evidence of an old crease across FFEP and TP. The hinge gutters have begun to tan, as seems to be common with this book. All points of issue are present, with the exception of the price on the DJ (clipped across the $-sign). DJ shows its age, with creasing and edgewear, some small chips. The spine has a 3/8" chip at the foot and a 3/4" chip at the head, losing the "B." Old cello tape attempt at repair. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/Very Good Minus.

Synopsis

Black Boy (1945) is an autobiography by Richard Wright. Depicting Wright's life in great detail, the book tells the story of his troubled youth and race relations in the South. It is about the many struggles that a person of his race must go through in order to survive in the early 1900's. In the story, Richard is a non religious child who grows up in a racist world. He must overcome those struggles in order to bring himself and loved family members to the north.
