About This Item

King and Queen County Virginia, Civil War Diary , 1965. Early days in Leelanau County, MI, are recalled in this new 46-page booklet titled: Leelanau County, Michigan, USA. The spiral-bound booklet includes excerpts from two hard to find sources: the 1965 booklet by Edmund Littell 100 Years in Leelanau and Michigan, a Guide to the Wolverine State, a 1941 product of the WPA Writer's Program. The tri-color cover is printed on 80# card stock and protected with a vinyl sheet. The text is printed one-sided on 11" x 8.5" 60# opaque paper. We printed two original pages per page. The area covered originally included Dickinson County as well. Among the subjects included are: .The first settlers -- John Lerue, John Dorsey Joseph Dame and others; early industries, largely lumber related; Civic Affairs; an Indian legend concerning the Glen Lake Region; Early settlers in the Glen Lake area; Glen Haven and Glen Arbor; South Manitou Island; Northport, the two Fox Islands; Greilickkville; Omena; Peshawbestown; Leland; North Manitou Island; Port Oneida; Suttons Bay; the North Unity story in the words of Bohemian pioneer Joseph Krubner; Lake Leelanau; Good Harbor; Empire; Other small towns. The brief excerpt from the WPA book follows State Route 22 beginning at Traverse City. Although sometimes out of date as a tour book, these WPA guides are rich in history and trivia.. Limited Edition Reprint. Spiral/Comb . New/No Jacket. 11" x 8.5". Private Press.
