Charles de Caylus, born April 20, 1669 in Paris, died April 3, 1754 near Auxerre, Bishop of Auxerre from 1704 until his death, at the age of 85. Exiled in his diocese for his Jansenist opinions, he transformed it profoundly and made it a bastion of Jansenism. Previous owner stamp of Pierre Barbier (1903-1992) Clerk at the Commercial Court of Romorantin, Montereau, then Brioude. Engravings by John Baptist Jackson (1701–1780) a British artist, a woodcut printmaker of the eighteenth century. He lived and worked in Paris (1725-30) and Venice (1730-1745) after which he returned to England.
