Chicago: Dixie-Vortex Company. Very Good. 1936. First Edition. Hardcover. These DIXIE CUP PREMIUMS were given to a patron when they had 12 collectible ice cream lids with miniature photos of stars. After collecting the 12 needed lids required to trade for one photo, most children decided it was better to keep all 12 lids rather than trade them for one photo therefore increasing the high collectibility and scarceness of the premiums. A series of 24 different stars were published for each year along with a special cover. In 1936 8 of the 24 featured stars had 2 separate portraits issued, thus there is a total of 32 in this special set. These full-color large-format premiums feature beautiful artwork and rich color printed on heavy card stock paper. Each premium was designed with a color stripe & two holes along the left edge for easy binding in a scrapbook. Each year the color of the stripe & the lettering changed; thus, although undated, each year's issue is distinctive. The reverse of each 8 x 10-inch premium features black-and-white stills from the star's recent films along with a few short paragraphs about the star. (the front but not the back cover is included). Condition ranges from VG to NF (near fine) . Original owner's information filled in on printed form on verso of front cover. Entertainment, Movie Stars, Hollywood, Cowboys. ; 8vo; 32 pages .

Description:
London: Brentano's Ltd., 1929. First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, 348 pages. An exhaustive look at the first 12 years of Soviet theatre by an art and theatre critic who made numerous trips to Moscow.
This is an excellent, well-researched study of early Bolshevik drama. Good photos. Especially noteworthy are some haunting portraits of key actors and directors. We would be remiss if we didn't point out Carter's entertaining preface, which is full of self-congratulation in this vein: "Only writers who, like myself, have entered Russia from time to time since 1917 and have systematically collected material for books on the theatre as a whole, can boast of being in a position to tell the complete story of the New theatre. The number of such writers is very limited. Probably there is only one -- myself."
CONDITION: Very Good (pages lightly age-toned, with a couple of damp stains on preliminary pages) in a dust jacket that's rubbed and darkened. The jacket also has some nicks and chips as well as some… Read More

Description:
1765 Siege of Calais French Play by de Belloy Seven Years War France PatriotismPierre-Laurent de Belloy was an 18th-century French playwright who was relative popular during his lifetime. His popularity was rooted in his recurring themes of patriotism in his plays. One such example was his 1765 play 'The Siege of Calais'. Following France's defeat in the Seven Years' War, the French public longed for promotion of French patriotism and Belloy delivered, even though more iconic figures like Voltaire were pessimistic regarding such plays.

Boston, Massachusetts:: Janet Zweig, Photographic Resource Center,, 1985.. 20 unnumbered pages. Four color offset printing on Mohawk Superfine paper. Quarter-bound with illustrated paper over boards and cloth spine. Leaves are folded and glued at the spine to allow for a continuous image. Texts are excerpted from: Dr. Lawrence Kohlberg (dilemmas), The Moral Development of the Child by Jean Piaget (stories), In a Different Voice by Carol Gilligan (responses at intermission)". Janet Zweig: "This book combines the classic Punch and Judy text and overlays it illusionalistically with three layers of imagery: First, there are slips of paper with excerpts from studies of morality and gender by Lawrence Kohlberg, Jean Piaget, and Carol Gilligan. Next there are drawings in crayon, ink and other substances as if someone was marking directly on the book, and finally there is an overlay of a shadow play that falls on each entire spread.."
