The dust wrapper has wear and tape repairs on the spine, also small pieces misssing. The 20th Battalion was a formation of the New Zealand Military Forces which served, initially as an infantry battalion and then as an armoured regiment, during the Second World War as part of the 2nd New Zealand Division. The 20th Battalion was formed in New Zealand in 1939 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Howard Kippenberger. After a period of training it embarked for the Middle East and then onto Greece in 1941 as part of the 2nd New Zealand Division. It participated in the Battles of Greece and later in Crete. Evacuated from Crete, it then fought in the North African campaign with the British Eighth Army. 1957 1st Ed h/b, b&w photos, col folding maps 631 pages (incl index) Sl cocked but tight & sound copy with substantially clean content (odd sm mark or minor spot of light marginal foxing), folding maps complete & undamaged, inscription-free (no names written inside), minor sm smudge fep. External wear includes light aging and handling of closed edges & some covers surface rubbing (sl heavier just on tips of corners), with some typical spine bubbling, but no splits or tears, & lacks (rare indeed) dw. Since this, the most well illustrated, title in the highly collectible 'Official Histories' series is more often than not only found in a more damaged or ex-library condition, and despite wear as described above, this copy should be considered better than average or even 'very good', being VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.
